Hi all:

I read a lot of posts from people discussing about the use of VNC or similar programs with MP.

Can someone please explain what can be done with those programs ?? what are the advantages ??

This maybe a silly question but honestly I don't get the point.

I use "TightVNC" all the time in our house. Why? To remotely configure our MP Server and Clients. That's done through our internal network, I don't make it a habit to open up the ports for external internet use although it can be done when we're away if needed.

I find TightVNC server doesn't use up a lot of RAM and you keep it running as a service all the time.

Now from any machine in our house (we have 4 clients and a notebook client) I can jump onto any of the other clients (or the server) and make some setup changes.

It basically saves me from having to walk to each client and configure it locally.

I don't know what the rest are using VNC for, but I can only guess it's for configuring the box.

VNC and TightVNC are free too.

Ok mow I understand the use of VNC, and perhaps it can be usefull to me too.

I have my HTPC at the living room, connected to my network, another PC in my office where I test all the features for later installation on the HTPC, and there are also
2 laptops from my kids.
