I'm looking for some software that will allow me to manage the media that's on my portable device (Archos 404) when it is not plugged in.

I've looked at Windows Media Player, MediaMonkey Winamp and some random others so far. With the exception of MediaMonkey, everything I've looked at requires the player to be plugged in before you can start to manage it. The weakness with MediaMonkey as I could see it, was that it was only particular folders or playlists that you could manage the sync over, rather than Artist, Album, Video lists. I like the way WMP does things when the device is plugged in. It would be perfect if it remembered your device after you unplugged it.

Quite often, I'll be listening to something or have just acquired something and think that I'd like to get it onto my portable device. A couple of days later when I get round to it, I can't remember what it was that I wanted to put on there.

Can anyone point me in the direction of anything they use to achieve the above?

Many Thanks :)
John

Not sure if I understood your problem correctly, but you can use Winamp to create a Playlist for all the music you want to sync, and set up so that it autosyncs your player each time from only that playlist. I use that for my MP3, and it works beautifully :)

Yes. You understood. I was thinking too much about the specifics of the problem and not for alternatives methods. A single playlist should do the job nicely. Thanks :)
