I've got a small prob with the aspect ratio of MPEG2 files I recorded from old videos. I recorded them in 3hr mode then ripped them to my Hard drive in MPEG2 format with no alteration and they are mainly 352x576 (half dvd) but in 4:3 aspect ratio. They play 4:3 in powerdvd and media player but not in MP. Help! any ideas. I use cyberlink decoder and don't use ffd show and my pc wont handle and resizing or post processing from ffdshow anyway. Any MP tweaks to solve this prob? thanks

Then can you post your hardware specifications in user CP top of forum page, system specifications and enable it, so we can see if there is a problem outside MP.

    Thanks

ok i will do that but the short answer is that i have the prob on two different PCs and all my external players play the files finein 4:3 ratio, its just media portal that in its normal aspect ratio setting sets it to widescreen:confused:

    Codecs used.

MPA is not good at aspect ratio's, Gabest is better, PowerDVD7.3 best, but it still may be hardware related.

I use cyberlink powerdvd codec 7 for both audio and video. I've played with every codec on my system, they are all the same. The only one that works is ffd show but I've set that up for other codecs with a different interlace type. I don't wanna use ffd because any changes i make to get MPEG2 playing effects all my other codecs and files whch work fine so I don't wanna mess them up. Like I said every external player installed on my pc plays them 4:3 which is why i'm inclined to think its a MP software issue rather than a hardware issue. MP plays all 4:3 files fine, as long as they arent half dvd file (352 x 576)

MP does not do anything to these files, only the codecs do, unless you have a different aspect ratio selected.
