    Hi can anyone help

Just started using Nero Digital to recode DVD's into mpeg4 format, and i must say, very impressed by the quality against file size, much superior to divx or xvid.
Now the problem, how to get the file to show in MP, have quicktime 6.5.2 on system which is shown as default player, but have changed to have WMP as default which plays files wonderfully using the quicktime plugin.
But of course i want the full functionality of MP and top quality videos.
Does anyone know how to get windows/MP to naturally support mpeg4.

Thanks for any assistance in this matter.

    Hi,

if the files play in WMP they should also play in MP. So please try to be more specific, what is not working?

If the files do not show up in Videos, just add the extension in Configure->Video->Extensions...

You may also give quicktime alternative a try. This is a direct show filter for the playback of QT videos in WMP.

    Hi All

Files play ok in WMP but will not play in MP (without ffdshow).
They will play using ffdshow (which i hate) but will not FF or Rewind.
    Any other suggestions

    Update

Found if you use left\right arrow keys, it will do the timed shift ie +15, +30 secs upwards. A workaround but not a solution.
Flipgear do you think its worthwhile putting as a bug.
H264 format is definately a format to be fully supported by MP.

Thanks for any help on this one 8)

    Hi,

do not know if I would call it a bug. Maybe a feature request suits better here...

H.264 is very new on computers so there are only very few codecs out there, to play it back.

I have a worse problem. I can play mp4 video from MPC but not from WMP or MP.

The thing is that I HAVE the correct codecs installed.

    I have:

    - Latest ffdshow (read below)
    - Latest xVid
    - Latest QT alternative

the above also is the order of installation

I saw the graph from MPC and it used ffdshow for decoding mp4! I then disabled ALL THE codecs inside ffdshow configuration (since I don't want to use ffdshow EXCEPT when I explicitely need it for something) and the new graph used xVid. In both cases mp4 worked. It never used QT alternative's filter.

But on ALL cases WMP says that I cannot play the file. Why? (it is WMP10)

Too many CODECs is a bad thing, that is why I hate codec packs and why I wrote the other thread so that we choose the best CODECs for each case.
