Hi guys, I finally made the switch to v1.0RC3 from v0.2.3 and I'm loving it.
I only had one issue during installation and because of that, for the moment I'm running it with the classic tv engine but I would like to use the new tv server.

The problem is, that some time ago I tried to install the tv server with an older release but that didn't go well and apparantly, the new installer sees that existing MS SQL database and tries to use that one.

Is there a way to uninstall that previous attempt of MS SQL because google didn't give me anything useful.

You can delete the old database easily. First stop via SQL Admin Console. Then go to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\ Data and delete both with TV... databases. Then restart the SQl-Service and click the TV Server Configuration icon on the desktop, you will receive an error message, click the TV-Server Configuration icon again, it should work

Hi Koschel, thank you for replying.
I only have an 'Microsoft SQL Server" folder on my D:\ drive under 'Program files' but it's empty.
Under services, there are 2 instances: SQL Server Active Directory Helper and SQL Server Browser. The 2nd had automatic startup type and the first one is disabled, however both of them are not started.

I also cannot find and SQL Server Admin Console.

Seems like I'm in the twilight zone...

Seem like your SQL Server is not running, the sqlserver.exe is missing, have a look at your taskmanager. The console can be found -> Start -> Programs -> Microsoft SQL Server -> Configuration Tools

Like I wrote, it went wrong when I tried to install v0.2.3 with the tv server and after trying quite a few times, I gave up and installed that version with the integrated tv engine.

MS SQL was also still visible as installed software in the control panel 'add/remove programs' section and those 2 services are still installed.

When I install the new version, it shows that MS SQL is already present and I get the first screenshot from this page TV-Server/config-TV-Server-first-start - MediaPortal Manual Documentation but the test goes wrong.
The hostname is correct and I also tried with the ip-address but no difference, I know the password is MediaPortal but no luck.

I think that removing it completely would be the fastest solution but that's my problem.
Any ideas?

As Roy said, try to reinstall MS SQL only, or try to remove the existing SQL via Add/Remove Prgrams and delete then the complete MS SQL folder, reboot and install MS SQL again.

Hi guys, I just tried reinstall the existing MS SQL installation but without luck.
First I deleted the 2 related services (were not running) and then reinstalled, removed again and rebooted.

The detailed installation of MP went ok but when I open the tv server configuration applet and fill in 'MediaPortal' as password, the hostname & directory field turn red and I get an error message saying:

Connection error: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. 
When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL 
Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network interfaces, error: 26 - Error locating Server/instance specified)

Ok, my problem is solved by reinstalling XP.
I started removing all entries in the registry containing MS SQL but they were so many and I wasn't sure about the result that I gave up.
