Thanks for all the helpful responses. Just attempting to get all my ducks in a row before I purchase any hardware and start my build.

So if I want to be able to record 4 channels at one time, I would need 4 cards.
Is this correct?

thats 100% correct for analog TV.

on dvb things are different.
there you can have o.e. 6TV-Channels on the same transponder / frequence.
this means that when you use the MediaPortal TV-Server, you will be able to record all 6 channels at once.


but generaly speaking, it is adviced that you have at least 2 TV-Cards installed if you plan to record 2 shows at the same time, or record one and watch an other.
that way you wont run into any issues.
