Hi mm1352000,

In the first post you write:

"Do all tuners support multidecrypt?

No. Tuners from Digital Devices and the Hauppauge WinTV CI only support decrypting one channel at a time"

Maybe im missing something or maybe this is just related to DVB-S?

I have a digital devices setup with an octopus card and 2 x dual dvb-c tuners, 1 x dual dvb-s2 tuner and a ci with a SMITH irdeto CAM.

I have no problem decrypting 2 channels at the same time even on different transponders? I have the CI attached only to 2 of my dvb-c tuners (tuner3 and 4)(1 and 2 i use for my FTA channels) maybe it wil even descramble 3 or 4 tuners at a time?

I absolutely love this setup of tuners. 100% stable and fast channel switching

Regards
Jacob

    Hi mylle

No this, is not just for DVB-S. It is applied to hardware not broadcasting standards...

As I understand it, you can attach the CI to multiple tuners, however *each tuner* can only get one channel to be decrypted at a time. To decrypt two channels on the same transponder you have to link the CI to two tuners and tune both tuners to the same transponder.

Comparing that with the multidecrypt I'm referring to here: you can use *one tuner* to decrypt multiple channels on the same transponder.

If I'm correct then your *CAM* supports multidecrypt, but the tuner drivers do not...

I absolutely love this setup of tuners. 100% stable and fast channel switching
    I bet you do! :D
If Digital Devices tuners also supported decrypting multiple channels with one tuner then it would be *the* ultimate setup.

Aaahhh. I see and you are right.

Just tried 2 channels from same transponder on same tuner. Did not work, but as i have 4 dvb-c tuners its not really a big problem for me.

I do have a pretty good contact at DD and i helped test their octopus card so maybe i can propose that they look at this? Is it only a driver issue? not hardware limited?

    regards

I believe it is only driver limited in the case of tuners, however I think it would be *very* complicated for DD to allow both CI sharing (like what you already have) *and* multidecrypt. In the case of CAMs it is probably firmware (or content owner/provider ;)) limited...

Wouldn't is be nice to support offline decrypt if online decryption is not available (in recording mode)?

    1. Watch an encrypted channel, with CAM -> ok.
    2. Start recording a nother encrypted channel, CAM is busy so record encrypted.

When later viewing the encrypted recording, the CAM is used.

This is how my SetTop PVR-box is working..

No solution for live-tv in multi-seat, but good enough for 1 client setup..

    ROLA:

Certainly an interesting idea. Then we'd have to add support for watching encrypted recordings or "batch" decrypting recordings when the CAM is idle...

You can decrypt a recording later?! But the key is changing all the time oO So if you want to watch your encrypted recoding later, the key already has changed x times oO
But why the hell is your settopbox saving the recordings encrypted?! If you do your recording with MP it isn't :p

I use my old settupbox along with MP :)
The box is dual-tuner, but has only one CAM.
The second tuner is exclusivly used for recording.

My settopbox can decrypt old recordings way back (6 month or so), since the new subscription is added to the smartcard, not replacing until the space is needed.

And if the recording is realy important, I can schedule a decode-session on the recording.
To be sure, this must be done before new subriptions is sent to the card (every month).

This works on Conax and Viaccess in Sweden.

There are several opensource projects to support offline-decryption of transport stream.
