Hi all,

I want to know if there is a way I can have multiple audio outputs for mediaportal? At the moment I have the audio out through my TV via hdmi cable from the video card. I want to be able to plug in external stereo speakers to the 3.5mm soundcard and have the audio come through both the tv and the external speakers, can this be done? It seems in the config I can only pick 1x directsound source. My old tv used to have rca-out so I could hook up the external speakers from the tv, but unfortunately the new one doesnt :(

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Im running Windows 7 Professional 32bit if that helps.

I am pretty sure that this is possible. I used to do this with XP SP3 (but the stereo analogue channels were used to feed to an amp in a second room to give mulit-room audio).

You need to make sure that the output is enabled in windows and that the 3.5 mm jack is configured to output the front stereo channel (within the sound card properties). You may want to different renderers in the MP audio settings for each source (Music/TV/Videos)

The main problem you will may get is that if you are using FFDShow (or similar) and have "Pass Through" selected for your HDMI, these types of audio may never actually get to your sound card and so your system may be a little selective with regarding what sound it sends to your analogue outputs. This was fine for me because I only wanted to hear music in the second room, and that is all that I got!

I have also wanted to do this for a while. I needed two outputs of audio (HDMI for one room) and stereo plugs for another room. I searched Google and these forums for a long time and finally found a solution else where. Here it is for anyone that needs it:

    STEPS:
1 - Enter your sound device control panel
2 - Ensure both of your output devices are displayed in the Playback tab
3 - Make your normal output device (i.e. speakers) your default playback device
4 - Click the Recording tab
5 - Right click in the list and click "Show Disabled Devices"
6 - If a "Stereo Mix" option (or something similar like "What U Hear") now shows in the recording device list, then you have this capability
7 - Right click "Stereo Mix" and choose "Enable"
8 - Right click "Stereo Mix" and choose "Properties"
9 - Click on the Listen tab in the next Popup window
10 - Check "Listen to this device"
11 - Set "Playback through this device:" to your second output
    12 - Click OK
    13 - Enjoy
