I'd like to have multiple installations of MP, one stable for recording watching etc. and another for testing new features improvements etc....
Now I've got a quite stable rc3+svn, I've tryed rc4, but I had some problems and I went back to rc3, but now I can't test new releases and plugins:-((((
Is there any workaround for this?!?
thanks

thanks a lot!
But I'm not sure it will work,
casue before installing rc4 I made a copy of rc3,
I uninstalled rc3, deleted all, installed rc4, then I wasn't happy and I treyd to delete Mediaportal dir and recovered with rc3, but when I lunched MP,
windows stopped me telling that the version I was trying to run was corrupted and I had to reinstall it.

Seems like windows makes a version check for files, so if I have installed
rc4, rc3 is not good and he prompts me for reinstall it.

Maybe this is working only if you test one version and want to change only the svn....

Don't know I'll try.... anyone else has 2 version of mp working?!?

    Hi,

I think this was the wrong step. You did only copy your RC3 backup back I assume?

You should have deinstalled RC4, then install RC3 and then copy your RC3 back....

What you can do to keep multiple versions?
Eg. you can always make a copy of your current version and run MP from this directory!

    So your beginning was right:
    - Copy RC3 to something like MediaPortal_RC3
    - Uninstall RC3
    - Optional: Delete MediaPortal directory (recommended)
    - Install RC4

This way you can run your stable RC3 from MediaPortal_RC3. ANd test RC4 from MediaPortal.

Hi just to add to that the steps to go back.

    I would suggest:

    - uninstall RC4
    - Delete directory
    - install new copy RC3
    - copy old directory RC3 over the top.

I think if you follow that you should have any problems.

    Thanks a lot to all!!!
I already went back to rc3 following exactly wath James suggested me and is working fine!!!
Ok I assume that so if I launch my stable rc3 from MediaPortal_RC3 dir windows doen't check for versions and let me run it!!!
So now I have to follow FlipGer steps!!!

I'll try as soon I have some time (I hope tonight...)

Just a more question, running the proper start.bat for the right version, ensures me that mp uses his own codecs (.ax) and other registered resources, right?!?
