Hi Guys

I know this issue has probably been resolved but i am now to head achey to search through all the post which seem to relate to it, but basically i cant get a stream of any kind to my laptop from my HTPC .

HTPC
OS Visa Ultimate SP1 Clean install
Vid Nvidia 7300
Ram 2GB
Processor 1.8 dual core e2160
TV card Kworld DVB-S 100

Laptop
Vista Business
1gb Ram
2 ghz proc

Media Portal RC1 (the new one)

Everything seems to work OK on the HTPC, bit flakey , but just needs tuning i think, but on the lap top i cant get any stream to work.

Have tried VLC RTSP sream on LT but error says "cant connect to stream".

VLC works Perfect on server as does MP:D

Can connect to DB using SQL odbc driver within SQL server which is running o my laptop.

But get nothing on my MP insallation.

If i use MPtv client I get the radio portion of my card showing in the lower section but nothing any ware else.

I have opened ports

And have now turned off both firewalls

There are no other firewalls on my systems.

I use AVG antivirus and Win Defender

I can ping the server ok, and see it in my network sharing centre. i have been trying to get this to work now for weeks and i am getting so frustrated as there is nothing comparable to MP out there so though you guys may well be repeating some or all of the fixes i hope you will help me.
Cheers

Alan

As some people have found closing the firewall does not stop things from being blocked, try enabling firewalls and allowing TVServer, mediaportal as exceptions.

    Hi PD

I have tried that already, and checked several times, i think this is the root of the problem though..... I don't know if this has any bearing on the problem, it has just occurred to me that the HTPC is connected via cable to a router (Belkin) and the router is connected via cable to another router (Sky) which is the Internet gateway and the wireless access point. Would this cause any problems??

Yes, you have a very abnormal SOHO configuration, unless the belkin is actually a switch not a router.

I bet it's your Sky router ;) they are so dodgy cheap and nasty

    1. Try disconnecting belkin. plug htpc into sky via cable. make sure you can ping by hostname in both directions..
    2. Borrow another (better, non-sky) wifi router/bridge/AP. It could be a normal wifi adsl router, or a broadband (ntl) wifi router. plug htpc into that and connect to the new test WLAN with laptop. you won't have the internet, but you don't need it for this test.
    3. Plug laptop into belkin via wire, does it work? Plug laptop into sky via wire, does it work?
    4. Maybe the network is configured correctly, but you get packet loss on wifi, causing vlc to trip out. try command prompt on laptop: ping -t -l 10000 router for an hour, and tell us what the packet loss is (ctrl+c to exit).

    Hi binary64

Thanks for your reply, yes your right about the Sky router it is very nasty, but i cant use another one with sky internet, i have a lovely MIMO router that i cant use. Any way, i noticed that i had Ultimate SP1 on the server(HTPC) and on one other laptop so i tested on that one and it all worked lovely, so i updated to Business SP1 and now the 1st laptop works.......almost , got picture but no sound........ I get sound on the VLC and in the stand alone MP TV client, ok but not in MP........any suggestions, Also me being a Thicko! here cant get the EPG to work either using xlmtv??? or something. I noted an interesting comment in another post which i thought quite true it said "We aren't all programmers, and don't always understand the somethings are phrases and others are actual names etc" The point i am making is only that what does what? Webepg, EPG, Xlmtv, ???and where do i get the tv stuff from? do have to subscribe to "www.allyour tvneeds.com (made-up URL) or is it free............

Sorry for late acknowledgment of your reply (busy weekend)

    Thanks

    Alan
