Hi,

A friend of mine had an interesting question before he builds a HTPC and installs Mediaportal.....

Is it possible to have music playing in the kitchen (sound card 1 output) whilst the rest of his family watch TV in the living room (sound card 2)?

Is mediaportal capable of this? Is it possible to have music playing out sound card 1 and have tv sound coming out soundcard 2 at the same time?

Cheers,
Colin

Go to "MP Advanced config", you can select the Direct Sound device for all the output :)

Actually you can set a different audio renderer for each activity (TV, DVD, Movies, Music), but MP will not allow playing these (e.g. TV and Music) simultaneous.

It will if you are using a TV Server and two (or more) clients :).

Could you explain how this is setup? The thing is he will only have 1 PC in the living room. Is it still possible?

I guess with that one instance of MP it isn't possible?

    Cheers,
    Colin

Just looking for clarification as to whether this is possible or not?

In a single PC setup this is NOT possible, as already suggested by EViS you need at least two MP clients running.
Maybe you can try running these in 2 different Virtual PC (or equivalent) sessions, but I am not sure if you will have the flexibility to assign different audio/video renderers in this virtual environment. I would say, just give a it a try if you have a weekend spare :D
