mvCentral - Music Videos Plugin (Stable) (4 Viewers)

I really love this plugin, but have one issue.... When I am watching videos, the 'screensaver' for mediaportal kicks in and makes the screen go blank. If I press any button on the remote it comes back up. This doesn't happen with other videos (tv, movies etc). Any idea how I can fix this, I really want to keep the screensaver option turned on for idle times.

First I want to say that this plugin is an absolute jewel amongst Mediaportal plugins for me! I have a big collection of 1500+ music videos and importing them to MVCentral database worked mostly without problems, I had to manually correct some of them but that wasn't too big of a job.

I have a couple of questions though, something I didn't find answers from wiki-page or from this thread.

1) I have some duplicate artist entries in my database, for example 4 Non Blondes twice on library. Both entries have only the one video I have. Then for example for AC/DC I have THREE artist entries: AC DC, ACDC and another ACDC. One entry has three videos, one has ~16 videos and third one has ~27 videos. And for example AC DC artist has the same videos that appear also under ACDC, but I think some of those videos appear only under one artist entry. There is some other artists that have double/triple entries as well. My question: Is it possible to combine artist entries somehow? I didn't find this option if there was one. Or how should I correct these without rebuilding the whole database again?

2) Now MVCenral looks up artist info etc from Last.fm, but I was wondering, is there any change you could add option to look up from, say, Wikipedia as well? At least that "general" info about artist and/or album. I was wondering about that because as a Finn I have many Finnish music videos and it looks a bit silly to read long biographies about some Finnish bands in English, while I know there would be (almost) the same story in Wikipedia in Finnish. I know there's option to automagically google-translate those last.fm entries but autotranslations look terrible in general

Thanks, glad you like the plugin.

They should not double up like that, may be an issue I will have a look. You can re-arrange tracks from the library within configuration - drag the video from the misnamed artist to correct another, either into the album if there or just to the artist. You can create an album for a drag by right clicking the track and selecting 'Create Album for track'. This is the method I use when this issue occurs.

Had not thought of looking up artist info on Wikipedia, will have a look at what is invloved in getting language specifi detail from this source.

Thanks for being so active! I should note that I seem to have found the problem - it was with the windows power settings and not MP screensaver - when I change the windows power settings from blanking the screen from the default 10 minutes to any other amount it lasts that long before the screen blanks out. Unfortunately now though if the kids leave the home screen up it can stay there for many hours and I'm worried about screen burn-in! Also doesn't explain why this problem doesn't happen with say moving pictures, online videos, tv series or any of the other playback plugins I use, but hopefully this new info helps you work out how to fix it.

Thanks for the tip! I had tried drag&dropping the duplicate artist together as I thought library could maybe combine those duplicates into one, and tried to delete the duplicate artists but plugin didn't let me do that. I never thought about dragging/removing the songs itself but that does work! Apparently when you MOVE the last song from that duplicate entry, the whole duplicate artist entry disappears, but if you just delete that duplicate song, the database will then have duplicate artist entry that you cannot delete. The only way is to drag some song under that artist, and then drag the same song away, that will clear the artist entry.

I am not sure if this helps for solving the root of the issue, but apparently all those duplicates were at the beginning of the database - for artists like 22-Pistepirkko, 3 Doors Down, 4 Non Blondes and AC/DC. I remember I closed the plugin settings first time when I saw how long the scraping process was going to take, and then opened it again later, and that time the whole process started all over again. Maybe that created the duplicates? All the other duplicate artists have clear reason, like DAD, D-A-D and D.A.D.

Great, I hope maybe sometime in future one could choose the source database of artist info by artist, when fine-tuning database entries after scraping process For example, one could compare artist entry in Wikipedia and Last.Fm and then choose one of them as source for that artist

Not forgotten this, to check out your DB fully I am building a test version to allow me to check what us happening (i.e. a version that does not clear out the DB if vids are missing on disk).

Hi,

To MvC everything is a playlist so selecting one song will create a playlist of just that song, pressing play on an artist will create a playlist of all songs by that artist, same for albums, genres etc.

To create a playlist of selected songs switch to track layout view, highlight the track you want to add to the playlist and either press 'info' on the remote or F9 to pull up the context menu and select 'Add to Playlist'.

This is a little long winded so will look at making it the same as music.
