My Films 5 - Favorite Features (1 Viewer)

We plan to promote My Films in cooperation with the providers of the various movie catalogs it supports. However, there are a ton of new features in My Films 5. In order to help me identify the most important features, I thought to start this thread where everyone can list their favorite features. This may also assist new users to understand what My Films can do.

So here are my top ten favorite features (it was really hard to pick and decide on the order LOL)

1. Never have to rescan/rebuild my database - the main reason I have always loved MyFilms - and I can use my database anywhere, not just in MediaPortal
2. Searching - I LOVE the new context related searching - everyone is always asking me what other film that actor was in or arguing about who directed similar films. Now I just search for related films, without even needing to type a word! That is how searching on an HTPC SHOULD be!!!
3. Fanart and Covers galore - I love having a slide show of all fanart (not just two images) in Details view, especially with the new Full Fanart view. Plus I can browse films in Full Fanart view or any Details view. The ability to download and change covers to select the one I like best is a huge plus for me!
4. Custom Data - I love being able to display all the data from my movie catalog. My Films 5 lets me easily customize the Overview layout in Details (even in GUI Global Settings) to display the fields I wish and label them how I want
5. Update database from within My Films - the ability to lie back and scan/add movies or update my movie catalog just using the remote! I used to spend several minutes to add each new film, find the poster I like, edit the data the way I want. Now I just press a button and let it update while watching a film
6. I can scan and add new films when I want (thank god it is not automatic as my internet is not that reliable)
7. Update by field and update different fields from different websites - even customize the grabbers to map fields like Certification, which does not exist in Ant Movie Catalog, to any field I wish. My Films lets me match how I have already entered over a thousand movies. It gives me total control over my data and recognizes and respects it is MY data!
8. Incomplete Movie Data - check for missing data and update just those fields/movies. This has already helped me improve the quality and consistency of my data.
9. Setup Wizard - although I don't have to use Setup that often, it is a huge plus to have all the options preset for me - especially for AMC Updater (which I could never manage before) and logos which used to be so tedious to setup. It now takes me only a couple of minutes to set up My Films and start using it in MediaPortal.
10. Unwatched Filter - I just set My Films to display only unwatched films by default, but what is great about the filter (instead of a view) is that it applies to all views (Genre/Category, Year, Actors or even my custom views). In fact, it even applies to searches.

Thanks Helios61 - done. I was just afraid I was creating too many sticky threads and was not sure how important this one was.

However, I do want to add that I think it is high time we all start posting what we LIKE about MP and all extensions not only My Films. Our forums are so full of our issues and requests that it is hard to get an overview of what is really great, which after all is the most important thing you want to know right?

Here's the short list.

1) You can get the proper fanart and covers for multiple movies with the same name without leaving the GUI.

I hate having the wrong covers or fanart for movies, this is one of the main reasons I like My Films better than other plugins. Take Dracula for example I have 5 Dracula movies, different years but without the control you get with My Films I end up with the same covers and fanart for all 5 or the wrong covers and fanart for them.

2) You can have 1 DB for all client machines.

It's a PITA to have to customize the Db in multiple client machines.

3) You can update the Db from any Client machine.

It's nice to be laying in bed and be able to update the DB for the new movie you just put on the HD and forgot to update the Db and get the correct cover and fanart without having to go to the server.

4) You can easily edit or add comments to the movies in the Db.

5) The Db remains even when you do a clean install of MP and all plugins.

Technically you should never have to rebuild your Db again.

6) You can rescan the Db when you like not on some schedule set by the plugin.

7) You can change what fields are shown on the details screen (Country, Category, Director, Producer, Length, etc.)

8) You can view trailers or interviews from IMDb or go to the IMDB page for the movie.

I really like the trailers feature.

9) Has indicator showing if you have downloaded trailers for the movie.

10) Has indicator showing Watched and online.

My favorite features ... hmmm ... it's obvious, that a lot of what got into MyFilms 5 is what I like or thought is needed or useful - but if I should select three, I'd probably choose those:

- Context search for persons and other key words - I really like to check what other movies there are with a certain actor or director - or searching for certain keywords in the context - all this makes browsing the library real fun!

- Global search - finally, I easily find my films when I am searching for it - even if I forgot the title; just by typing a keyword, an actor, or whatever I can remember ... even part of the description is enough to get where I want. As I also have my documentations in a MyFilms DB, the global search gives me all documentations I have for a certain theme or keyword - like "Egypt", "Einstein", etc.

- User Interface - I like to be able to control the HTPC with the remote - and with a concept that reduces the need for typing to a minimum. Also updating or correcting minor things from within the GUI is what I like, so I don't have to run to a "normal PC" just to correct a wrong fanart or change the cover.

- The best feature for me is the complete support with the last EAX Movie Catalog 3.0.9.
- Searching, its really complete, usefull and easy
- I found really interesting the soon coming trackt support, i'm using it with my tv series and movie pictures and my film will complete it.

I'd like to add the fanart creator (see "create fanart") to my favorites - so I never end up anymore with movies without fanart - and especially I can add fanart also to my documentaries and private movies

My favorite are:

- The possibility to at my DVD / BluRay / HDDVD Collection to my films without having to add faked movie files or something like that.
- To at own logos which show the type of medium on which my film is. (i.e. I use File, File HD, Image, File DVD, DVD, BluRay, HDDVD, ... )

Hello.
My favorite features:
1. Manual edit/upload FanArt and Covers in AMC Updater ( with choose pictures on local disks )
2. Add Headers on AMC Updater ( Accept, Accept-Language, Accept-Encoding, user-agent ), because many sites using protection against bots ( for example kinipoisk.ru)
3. Download trailers from youtube on local disk.
4. Many many more fields ( 2 ratings, reviews, critic, budget, gross, actors photo, studio,
5. Add in ability Grabber multiple levels of nested URL
6. Rename films ( on local disk ) by data from internet. For example: local disk: avat2009HDRip.avi, on Avatar_2009.avi
7. Fix Black Glass HD skin support.
8. More ratings ( for example: IMDB, kinopoisk.ru.... )
