Hey guys,

I've been lurking through the forum for a few days and have come up with the start to my first HTPC. I wanted to run a couple of things by all of you brilliant folks to see if you approve. I live in Canada and will be using only standard cable television as my input.

This is the system i intend to put together:

Tv Tuner: ATI TV WONDER ELITE

Mother Board and CPU: ASUS m2npv-vm with an ATHLON 64 3200 and 512 mb ram

Samsung Dual Layer Multi DVD drive

300 GB Hardrive, not sure who makes the quietest one, any suggestions?

Antec Overture II Quiet Media Case with 450W power supply

oh yeah and lastly,

26" Acer LCD TV (this one i already have)

Anwho, thanks in advance for your insightful responses. I look forward to using media portal soon. Keep up the great work.
Also, if there are any Canadian users, could you let me know how hard it was to get the guide function working?

I would most definitve replace the Overture II with a NSK 2400 (both Antec).

Just buildt a NSK2400 with same mobo as your, and the case is great!

380W ACTIVE PFC is neat, to....

300 GB Hardrive, not sure who makes the quietest one, any suggestions?

Seagate is quiet but does not support AAM, so I would condsider a Samsung

Bram: probably the the int. 6150, which should do the trick (supports PureVideo even). 1 GB should be considered, as you share system memory with gfx.

    thanks for the great replies.

I will consider 1 gb of ram, i wasn't sure about how much the shared onboard video would bog down the system. And Samsung was the hardrive i was considering, but i hadn't read any reviews anywhere about the noise. The NSK2400 looks great too, and 30 bucks cheaper.

Thanks a bunch guys. I'll be sure to post more as my project comes together
