My Harman receiver always start at "Surround Off" whenever it plays a video, even if (1 Viewer)

Hi There. My Harman Receiver always starts playing a video file at "Surround Off" mode. But the info of the movie clearly shows it has AC3 audio. I always have to press the correct surround setting, before it starts playing the correct way.

My questions are:

1. Is it because MediaPortal isn't sending the right info to the Harman, that's why it starts playing at surround off mode? I'm using HDMI connection to my Harman AVR247.

2. If my Harman shows "Dolby Surround MOvie," how can I check if I'm getting the real thing? Meaning, I do experience 5.1 surround?

Not really my cup of tea, but since im using a H/K reciever ill try to help:
You have to enable HDMI to use the AC3 or DTS stream.. If you get this going, your H/K will show you DTS or DOLBY DIGITAL and flash all 5 speakers..
You should set your H/K to "stereo" because it will use stereo when playing music. It will automaticly do the above when it sees an AC3 signal.

So a setting in mediaportal (use SAF codec pack) and setting in your sound driver.

You should set your H/K to "stereo" because it will use stereo when playing music. It will automaticly do the above when it sees an AC3 signal. (So "surround off" is ok? And it will automatically switch to surround mode if needed?)

So a setting in mediaportal (use SAF codec pack) {where do I do this? I used shark's vista codec pack, to lessen the trouble of setting up different codecs. It all just works} and setting in your sound driver (I don't where in the audio driver to set to ac3/ dts stream).

Chec your sound properties under control panel. Be sure to enable the supported output formats. It can also b eunder your own driver/program to your soundcard. I myself use an integrated soundcard from realtek, it has its own driver/prgram with settings.

Stereo is OK. When your H/K sees an AC3 signal it will switch itself to surround mode.

The setting in MP should be under the codec you use for sound output.

Hello Sintei,

I went to control panel, sound, playback, ATI HDMI Output properties, supported formats, and clicked on DTS and Dolby Digital. I also opted to configure ATI HDMI Output to 5.1 Surround speaker setup. But upon doing the testing, sounds from the speakers are clipped, and not played in full. But playing videos in mediaportal, sound works fine. No clipping. My Harman shows "Multi Channel PCM" "3/2/.1" Is this correct?
