The process taking all the CPU time is simply mediaportal.exe!
It's not like the bug in My Music though - the cpu usage, while wandering a bit isn't particularly spikey and remains even if I minimise MP to the tray.
I experimented a little more and discovered that I get less CPU usage if I use other codecs (ie not Purevideo). I think this is a case of resigning myself to the fact that the purevideo codec is a little too cpu hungry for my liking, or at least try the clean install in case it's just got its knickers in a twist. At least the overheating is under control thanks to that BIOS tweak - I watched for about four solid hours last night with only a small unrelated glitch!
