I would really like to add an option to my music so that it will continue to play if an external application is launched from mediaportal.

Using My Programs, if you launch a program, it currently stops music play. I tried spawning a process and keeping mediaportal open, but no matter what option I pick, music stops when something else is run.

At first I thought it was My Programs sending a command to my music to stop.... but then I played with my radio, and launching a program while the radio is playing doesn't stop the music! (although it does force a reload of the music which causes temporary stop).

I would like some help... if you could let me know which files would be a good place to start - or better yet which methods to look in - and if somebody has some insight as whether I should start with my music or my programs that would be appriciated too...

I don't want to change how mediaportal works be default - but I think as a strong media center it should have the option to be able to play music and do other tasks at the same time.

For example, say you have a whole bunch of roms installed and an emulator... and you're having a party... so while you're playing music, somebody decides.. hey.. let's play pong... so they click on pong through the my programs interface and all of a sudden the music stops and now the whole party is sad :(

It would be much better to have the music continue as the external program is launched... and I don't think this would be hard for somebody who understands how my programs and my music works. I will try.. but if somebody could point me in the correct direction I could do it much faster!

Thanks

Started searching for g_player.stop() to see what causes this call.. Does [Info.][MPMain] mean it comes from MediaPortal.cs?

I would have suggested that you change the title of your starting post to something like "My Program - stops radio" - but I first have to ask specifically which plugin are you using?

It could be that you post is getting lost or that the developer isn't watching the forum or that the developer has moved on.

But lets first find out which plugin (a link would be helpful) you have installed. Also, what version of MediaPortal are you have the problem with?

Ok. The plugins I am using are:
"My Programs" - a windows plugin that seems to come pre-installed with at least the newer versions of media portal
"My Music" - with the BASS player set as default
"My Radio" - comes with media portal
Right now I'm using the latest feature update, but it also happens with a recent SVN build and also I believe with the latest stable build.

I'm not sure if "my programs" is telling the music to stop or if "my music" just always stops as a result of something "my programs" is doing.

As I mentioned, "my radio" actually doesn't stop when "my programs" launches a program - there is a weird but that I would like to fix here as well though - after launching a program, the radio does a refresh of the song which causes a temp delay in music.
I hope this clears things up.
    Thanks

From what you are saying it appears like my programs is interacting with the previous plugin which is using audio output. I still wonder if you change the title of this thread you may get a developer (don't expect immediate response, it may take a day or two) to respond.

If you don't get a reply - then I suggest going onto the IRC and see if you can find a developer to look into this. Please don't give up or get frustrated. we need persistant people to make the product more robust!

It seems ( by your second post in this thread) that you have done a litle research and it could be that may help them when you ask for help on the IRC. Please note that it could take asking at different times - this is due to the fact that most of the developers are in Europe and are several hours ahead of NorthAmerica timezones.

Thanks for replying mzemina.. I have tried a few times looking for people/developers on IRC with no success...

I will try and go on IRC a little earlier to try and be online when other people are online.... in the mean time I hope maybe a developer will reply to this post :)

    Alright,

I have determined that it is "My Programs" that calls "g_Player.Stop();". I can get what I need by hackishly commenting this line out and compiling MP...

BUT - I don't want to have to do this everytime a new version of MP is released. I would much rather use stable/feature releases that are already compiled.

I think the best thing to do would be to add a checkbox to each file launch page saying "Allow music to continue". That way you can allow the music to continue on a per application basis.

I tried to add this functionality, but I had trouble adding the checkbox.

Is there any developer that could add this feature for me? I don't believe it would be much effort for an experienced programmer.

I have looked into the xbox 360 media center and it will play music through anything else you're doing on it.. and I think this should be at least an option in MP.

    THanks!

Hey thanks for looking into this, i reckon your suggestion in the last post regarding a checkbox would be ideal. I wouldn't know one end of programming from another so cant help there, but i just wanted to know your work is eagerl awaited by me at least. Cheers m

thanks mdsflyer.. I posted in the feature request forum regarding this and have received no feedback, I've also tried to get ahold of some people on irc with no luck, so I'm not really sure if anyone besides you and I think this is an important part of MP.
