I'll be using some of my old computers parts to put together a simple HTCP, which will hopefully be running Media Portal. Here are the parts:

- Connected to 26 inch Bush HDTV
- Using TV's speakers
- AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+
- Nvidia GeForce 7600GT 256mb
- 1GB DDR 2 RAM
- DVD-RW drive
- 80GB SATA HDD
- USB DVD-T device
- Generic Venus Desktop Case
- USB Wireless adapter

Aware the HDD is quite small, but recorded TV will be stored on home network elsewhere in the house.

Thoughts and impressions?

Have you already got the USB adapters? Otherwise I'd be inclined to buy internal tv / wireless cards - my tv usb tends to get knocked which I'm sure can't be good for it! Other than that, a great spec! :)

The USB adapter is on it's way. I'm not too worried about it being knocked, the computer itself will be in a location where it can't get knocked, with the adapter at the back.

My only worry is the TV receiving device won't work with MediaPortal. As this will be my first time using MediaPortal for receiving TV, I'm not sure how many TV devices it works with.

I know it has devices it supports fully, but how many does it work with that it doesn't officially support?

Never seen this one before. I would like to say what it would be like, you never know it could be fine. I have a Nebula Digitv internal card and Hauppauge usb device and there isn't much between them. Don't think Nebula is officially accepted either. I'm sure it'll be fine.

Fingers crossed then eh? :p It wouldn't be too big a deal if it didn't work in MediaPortal, but I want everything in one really.
