A week ago our ITS department was asked to update Mediaportal from 1.0 to 1.0.2. The update was not done correctly so I had to completely uninstall Mediaportal/SQL Server. I did the "Single Seat with TV Server with a SQL Database Engine" install which completed successfully. Ran the TV Server Configuration which connected to the server (all green boxes) and I clicked yes to start the TV service.
Upon going into Mediaportal and clicking "Turn On TV" another window pops up (as seen on the task bar) with the name of ActiveMovie Window but nothing ever comes up (even after 30 minutes).
Mediaportal was successfully working before the update so I know it can work.

Got the issue solved. Found this in another post:
Hi, I had your same problem after update my windows xp and upgrade to mediaportal 1.0.2.0
I have solved changing the setting of video render VMR9:
-Open mediaportal configuration
-Select Directshow filter control
-Select Video render settings
-Disable VMR9 and select the option Enhanced Video Render (EVR).
After this, My TV is OK and now I see the video.
