Hello,

I have been trying for weeks to get My TV running on Vista Home Premium. Everything else works fine. The system has a Hauppage 150 installed and loads in configeration. Did an autotune for TV channels and even watched a few in the setup, however when starting My TV the TV plugin will not start. Is there a MCE service I need to stop to make this work on a Vista setup? I have searched these forums and googled my heart out.

No, just make sure same MP svn and TVE3 versions are installed.

I'll tell you now, could not get this running with UAC enabled, it threw too many spanners into the works.

Originally I tried running just MP without TVE3 and could not get TV to work at all. Decided to try TVE3 and hopefully that would fix the problem, discovered that I could not load it with UAC enabled but did manage to find some help online and got it loaded. Unfortunately I could not get SQL running properly and will leave that another day. I have done some research and I think the hauppage drivers must be wrong. Recently I discovered VistaMCE was running in the background and took control of capture card, have that issue sorted now (kill VistaMCE) but still getting no TV. In the MP configuration I can install the card, autotune for channels and watch them in the little window - All good. When I load MP and switch to TV it will not turn on, select a channel and nothing happens, completely confused?? Everything else works great, movies, music, weather, pictures - and never crashes! Also I installed the latest SVN last night hoping that would fix it :(

    AMD Athlon64 X2 4400+ 2.3GHz
Gigabyte GAMA69GM-S2H MATX VGA AM2 HDMI (Raideon x1250)
    2Gb RAM
    Western digital 400Gb SATA
    Hauppage PVR 150
    Logitech Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse
    Vista Home Premium

This is about the 8th Mediaportal HTPC I have built, this one the first with Vista and by far the hardest (also trying to do exactly the same thing on my own Vista Ultimate PC and get the same issues, phillips capture card though). The best system I have done is: WMCE2005, AMD 1000, 512Mb RAM, 250Gb HD, 120Gb HD (for TV), Nova-S Plus (Freeview), Nvidia 5200 (originally a Nvidia MX440), MCE remote + keyboard. If this crappy old PC can do it surely the one I am working on at the moment should work.

Firewall may be a problem, have had mine not auto detect a request to allow a program through a few times now.

Does not sound good about the sql giving a problem, resolve that first.

    Thanks for your help,
I have uninstalled TVE3 and will remove SQL aswell, I have given up on TV engine for now. I just want TV in MP to run. The firewall should not effect the TV plugin for MP, as it does not require the network to run, just the capture card.

I think PD was correct with the firewall. I remember there was an issue a while ago where MP TV Client wanted to be able to see the network to run correctly. This meant you couldn't run in stand alone without a network card or if the firewall blocked connections. I am not sure if this still is (or even was actually) a problem, since it never affected me.

As for Vista, I just finished installing my first MP on a Vista Business machine. It's so much harder than an XP install.
I killed the firewall and UAC all together, since it's a dedicated MP machine.

If you can't get it working, I would suggest posting logs and some more information.
Definitely TV client wont work if SQL isn't installed properly as well. I think that's the first thing you need to get fixed.

Thanks for all your help. I am going to start from sratch and start with the basics, single seat MP with built in TV. If I get the same problems with the new drivers for the capture card then I might be able to narrow things down.

Have reinstalled MP on my home system (Vista with same problem) and I am very sure it is a driver issue. So now will do the same on the AMD 4400 X2 system, have downloaded the latest Hauppage driver.

    UAC was on

Have solved both problems. In both instances UAC control had turned itself back on, even after I had discovered it was on, after a re-boot Vista decided I really needed it back on (not sure how it got permission to do that). My own machine is now running TV Server but unfortunately I cannot get "True" drivers for the capture card (maybe OEM card is not support) not a much of a problem as I can replace it.

Related question: is it possible just to turn UAC off and not have the annoying pop up? I have gone to control panel, typed "UAC" into the search window and then selected off and re-booted. The very next boot it comes back asking to be turned on again, very anoying!

Thanks again for all your help, this one was driving me up the wall.
