The TV server 3 manual recommends that if you're using MS SQL then use the Express edition which is free, it also details how to limit the memory used by SQL instance.I have it running on my HTPC without issue, it doesn't hog memory. I use SQL regularly hence why I use MS SQL on my HTPC.The speed of running SQL queries is more likely to be influenced my the database schema, indexes & MP code rather than the DB engine.So I think the answer to your original question is - whatever suits you best - MP works with both with similar performance.
