Synopsis::

My TV isn't working as it should. I can switch between SVT1 and SVT2 but if I try something else all I get is ablack screen and after that I can't change channels at all. Also I get "Can't start timeshifting" from time to time. When that happens I can't get any channels to work. The strange thing is that I don't have Timeshifting activated. When this happens I can restart MediaPortal and it works ...most of the time. If not a new restart of MP does the trick)

BTW...I can return to main menu and watch movies etc. It's just MyTV that has gone bonkers.

My error log:

Hi, I know this doesn't help you but I am having what looks like the same or a very similar problem with RC3, I'm getting the "Object not refrence.." exception right after the StopTvCommand followed by all channels not working until a restart of MP. I can usually only change channels once or mabe twice before this happens. I rolled back to 0.1.3 yesterday but I will try to go up to RC3 again on the weekend and post a full report on the error.

Oh, just noticed in your post you are also getting:

2006-03-20 22:44:34 DVBGraphBDA:Failed to connect samplegrabber filter->mpeg2 demultiplexer

I get this exact error as well, which is strange because it must have been able to connect up the pins if you can watch tv even for a minute??

Can anyone a bit more cluey help us out?

I have found out why timeshifting sometimes can't start. In my 'error.log' I found an entry that said that the tvcomlog.txt was used by another process. That sounded odd so checked me task manager and found that even though I had exited MediaPortal it was running as a process. I killed that one and started Media Portal and found that I could timeshift again.

Sometimes when you exit MediaPortal it is still running as a process. The first time I noticed this was when Setup said that MediaPortal had to restart upon exiting. I hadn't MediaPortal running...I thought but discovered (in Task Manager) that it was in the process list. I have no idea when this happens. Further investigations might clear that out.

** Investigations done! check out this thread **

If I start MediaPortal -> MyTV -> Select channel 1 (SVT1) -> Select channel 2 (SVT2) Everything goes well but as soon as I select channel 4 (TV4) it goes black and I have no sound. After that I can't change to the previous channels (SVT1, SVT2) either.

My error.log says:
2006-03-22 10:42:16 DVBGraphBDA:Failed to connect samplegrabber filter->mpeg2 demultiplexer

I tried to see what differs these channels from each other. The only thing is that SVT1 and SVT2 has a value in the AC3 PID field. (Setup -> Television -> TV Channels -> Edit channel -> DVB-T tab). TV4 and other channels that I have problem with has a value of 0 (zero) in that field.

doodfood: Can you check your channels as described above? What does the AC3 PID fields say? are they zeroed?

Hey Moltas, good work spotting that connection, I'm not sure if mine have a value in the AC3 field but I'll double check when I get home today (at work right now). I haven't noticed any pattern in which channels work and don't work like you have though. I seem to have TV playing when I first enter, then I can change channels mabe once or twice (it doesn't matter which channel) and then it will eventually come back with the error you described in the log followed by all channels not working. I'm in Sydney Australia so someone might be able to tell you straight off whether our channels have AC3 values - else I'll check tonight when I get home..

Hey, well i've checked up my channels and it looks like channel 9 and 10 here have AC3 PID values against them while 7, ABC, SBS and ABC2 have 0 . When I upgrade to RC3 again I'll have to see if there is a connection between this and when MP comes back with the error in the log. I'll try switching between 9 and 10 exclusively and then from 9/10 to one of the other channels and see if there is any relation.
