Would love to be able to use the chan + and - keys to move the channel info pane up and down channels without changing channel, then when I want to change channel hit the select or ok key or if I want to return to my current channel just let it time out, means I can see whats on the other channels without changing my current channel. Sky's interface in the UK works like this.

Most Ditigal TV set-top boxes work this way as well. I concur! It would be great to have MP do the same.

I don't agree.

I don't like additional keystrokes. To go to the next channel I would have to press channel up twice. Why to make it more comlicated???

ie, when you are in fullscreen watching tv, + and - should change the channel (just like it already does). but, if you bring up info pane about current program (now and next actually), + and - should scroll info from other channels in current line-up/group, and if you want to change to some channel while showing info, you should press OK/Select button on remote...

THIS suggestion I agree with as opposed to the original idea.

I'm another big fan of this approach - the Sky TV STBs in the UK do this and it is just so intuitive!

If you hit any of the arrow keys or Enter, the "now/next" banner appears on screen. Do nothing for a few seconds and it disappears again, but if you press up/down while it's still displayed it changes to show now/next for other channels accordingly. If you see something on another channel you like the look of, hit Enter to change to that channel, or do nothing and the banner disappears after a timeout of a few seconds.

In addition to this, you can hit left/right while the banner is displayed to move through programmes on the same channel - so you can see what's coming up later. Hitting enter while a later show is displayed in the banner would set to record or remind that show.

The Channel +/- buttons act differently in that they change the channel immediately so you don't need to use the "search-n-scan banner" (as I believe it's called) if you don't want to.

I think I'm right in saying MP uses the arrow keys during full-screen TV for ffwd/rwd, but we could get something similar with the Zap OSD in MP with a relatively minor change requiring you to press Enter to change to the displayed channel - if it times out, just stay on the channel you were watching..?

Edit: Oops, just re-read pirlone's post and realise this is basically what he's saying - I agree!

I belive this solution should make everyone happy !! The best of both worlds.

I concur with that idea, I have just installed RC3 and I notice that the up down channels allow you to move up and down without changing channels allowing you to see the current program and the next one. Almost what I'm after but not quite, if you stop scanning the channel changes. Ah well maybe one day.

PS very pleased with RC3, no hangs or crashes in 48 hours.
