MyVideos: Playlists Not Correct for DVD Folders on Hard Disc (1 Viewer)

I have been playing around with MediaPortal for some time now and find it extremely good. However, I am finding that there is a problem with the Playlists when using them on DVD files stored on the hard disk.

To clarify, if I have:-

Folder1--
Audio_TS
Video_TS

Folder2--
Audio_TS
Video_TS

etc

and then position the cursor on Folder1 or Folder2, and press "Y" to add it to a playlist, then I find that all files (or all those that have valid file associations set in the config program) are added in the playlist. This is not what I want. What I need is for "Folder1" and "Folder2" to appear in the playlist.

I know that this is actually by design, for those times when you want to add all files in a folder to a playlist, but considering you can play these DVD files simply by clicking on "Folder1" or "Folder2", then the same approach should apply to DVD folders being added to playlists, from the point of view of consistency.

Has anyone any views or perhaps any workarounds?

I have done a bit more investigation into this. One of the moderators has said in a previous thread (can't find it now) the following:-

"...if a folder contains a single .avi (actually, any valid movie format) file, then clicking on the folder will cause the file to play. However, if you have mulitiple .avis (or other video files) in the folder, clicking on the folder will open the folder and display the folder contents. Then you have to click on whichever video file you need to play."

This is the problem with the playlists, as DVD folders contain more than one *.ifo file.

I can't think of a work-around on this, as it is a design conflict (rather than a bug) within Mediaportal. The solution would be to make Mediaportal recognise that a folder contains a VIDEO_TS folder and ensure that the folder (rather than the file contents) are added to the playlist.

Would be nice to get a comment from a Mediportal programmer on this.

A solution/workaround might be to save your DVD's as iso files, not as a directory. Then you can use the deamon tools integration to automount a DVD upon your request. (don't forget to add .iso as a movie extension)

Hi onkl,

Same result using Daemon Tools. The DVD folder appears as a VIDEO_TS/AUDIO_TS structure and the playlists don't work. In fact, pressing "Y" on a .iso file just results in a completely empty Playlist.

Actually, this is a bit worse than I originally thought. This means that you cannot use Playlists with DVDs at all. Can't really believe that is the case - perhaps I need to mess around a bit more - but it certainly seems this way.
