i currently have all my DVDs backed up onto a server at home, but im planning to switch over to a NAS based system to hopefully make things a bit more stable.

what sort of transfer rates would i need in the NAS specs to be able to handle HD content (ie, be able to watch blu ray movies stored on the NAS)?

i found these on ebay, but theyre a bit unclear on their data transfer speeds over a network

clicky to NAS...

clicky to NAS 2...

thanks :D

Either one would be fine, as long as it gigabyte lan it should be fine, 10/100 wont handle hd though

I use the Zyxel NSA 220 and watch HD Content... The NAS has an 1Gbit interface but i only have an 100Mbit switch but HD content ´(720p) still works fine. I haven´t tried 1080p yet cause my projector only supports 720p....

The nas supports RAID 0 and 1 up to 2x750GB Hard Disks.

you can find it at ZyXEL - Country Selector

yeah they look nice ^^^, just a shame they dont do anything bigger. 1.5Tb wont be enough for future proofing.

i think ive got a 1Gb router, so hopefully that should be able to handle HD content then.

    thanks everyone.

Even if you dont have a Gbit router you can get a Gbit switch for around $30, I use a standard linksys 10/100 router and a 5 port D-Link Gbit switch which all the pcs are connected to
