need help with DTS stutter (1 Viewer)

Hey,

I really need help with getting DTS audio to work smoothly on MP. I've been at this for 5 days now and I've tried everything I could find on here and via google but nothing seems to be able to fix the stuttering and high pitched and painful spikes in the audio. And this only happens on DTS and within MP.

If I play the video in MPC HC, it works fine. Graphedit shows that it's using CoreAVC (and VOBSub) for video and AC3Filter for Audio but I have a feeling MP isn't following the same rule.

I've tried so many different things from setting up MP Config to force it to use the same codecs but still it has the stutter. I've tried reclock and that didn't do anything to fix the audio. I've tried installing different codec packs like Sharky's and nothing.. and i didn't like the software that much either btw.

If there's anyone out there who can show me the light, I'd very much appreciate it!

If you are using ffdshow audio, you might want to set "ffdshow audio decoder" as a "video post process". See MP Config > Video > Video Post processing.
Double click "ffdshow audio decoder" in the lower list, it will apear in the top window. You only need to tick it to enable it. Hope this solves it.
If you are using AC3Filter to decode/re-encode AC3/DTS streams, you need to do the same, but then with AC3Filter

You can also try SAF 4.0. See HERE. There is good information in that thread anyway about this.

Good luck

I posted my experience on a DTS .mkv file I had... read this thread and you'll know what I do. You might should tell us is it an mkv or a BD or what is the source? Apparently not all files are created equally! As far as adding additional codecs I'm sticking with only a few and FFDshow has too many options, too many 'opinions' are posted about how (they think) it needs to be configured. I use either MPC-VideoCodec for .264 or DivX-HD, and Cyberlink PDVD10 for all others. Oh, and I'm back using SPDIFer to passthrough AC3 and DTS - no encoding, no processing, no converting... simply passthrough :)

Another thing is to use GraphStudio to connect to remote.... this will allow you to see the graph MP has built so you can confirm MP is/is not doing as you asked (in your configuration) and against what MPC-HC is doing. You have to register proppage.dll to get it working under Vista and Win 7... here'a a link to assist

Thanks for the replies. I've been a bit busy lately and haven't had a chance go back to this until yesterday.

I got it fixed (somehow) by installing SAF v5 beta. Strangely, I didn't have to add ffdshow audio dec to the post processing on MP but I'm glad it's working now.

The source were all MKV files. I don't have many. But any time it had DTS audio, the stutter would show up.

Now, everything seems to be working fine but now the stuttering is only happening with the cartoons I've recorded for my daughter. It's only 2.0 stereo but the signal stutter is audible.. even worse than it was with the DTS.

I'll try adding the ffdshow audio dec to post processing and see if that does anything. Thanks!

    =========

So adding the ffdshow audio decoder to the Video post processing menu didn't help a bit.

When I check Graphstudio, it says the file is being split first by AVI Splitter then the two streams go to ffdshow video and audio decoders.

I tried disabling AVI Splitter via Filemerit but then the files wouldn't play at all.

When I play the file on my other machine, the audio stream goes directly to MP3 Decoder DMO and the video goes to ffdshow video decoder and the audo sounds fine.

Any ideas on how to get my htpc to use the same decoder?

post the current graph, then explain the graph that you are trying to achieve.
also need to play the file in mpc-hc, then go properties then copy + paste the video/audio information.

Re: need help with MP3 2Ch stutter

This is the current graph on my htpc that has the stutter.

Are you playing the same movie file on both PCs because Atlantis 2 Milo's Return.avi only contains mp3 stereo audio, it does not contain a DTS track. Generally rips that are 700mb only have 2 channel mp3 audio tracks, not DTS.

Sorry.. I had fixed the DTS stutter (see previous post above your first). But then the MP3 audio was stuttering which didn't before.
I guess I should have opened a new thread.

This is on the presumption that mp3 decoder dmo is giving you problems and if you replace with ffdshow audio then the problem will go away.

Make an image/backup of your computer

First - install ffdshow (audio) onto PC with stutter
    Restart computer
Play file, see if ffdshow audio loads instead of MP3 Decoder DMO

If it doesn't go into ffdshow audio settings
make sure mp3 decoding is enabled, retry if it wasn't

    If this doesn't work
install Radlight filter manager (freeware, doesn't actually install anything into windows you just run the .exe file)
Lower the merit of MP3 Decoder DMO, or raise the merit of ffdshow audio decoder so that ffdshow > mp3 decoder dmo
Log off windows for changes to take effect
Play file, does ffdshow audio load instead of MP3 Decoder DMO?

If mp3 decoder dmo still loads then use radlight filter manager to deregister the codec.

EDIT: I just realised that it was the PC with ffdshow audio that is miss-behaving. Just go into ffdshow audio setup and disable mp3. Now ffdshow will not load for mp3 audio, MS built in codec will be used instead.
