I am wondering if either, MP1 or MP2, and TV Server will run on these new windows 8 tv boxes with the atom processors.
Like one of these:
pipo x7 or Vsmart intellebox.

I would prefer to use a windows box over an android box. But I want small, cheap, box As my clients at the tv.

I went ahead and ordered the Pipo x7. It is slightly faster than the other one. It should be in next week. I will let everybody know how that works out.

Tuner should be in by this Thursday. The SD HDHR extend.

Then I have a ton of work getting all this set up. I'm sure I will have a lot of questions.

I'm kind of holding off on setting up MediaPortal on anything until I have all of the needed hardware.

for TV Server, you well may need 20-50GB storage for time-shift and around 160GB for TV recording. You might see some storage issues if you have a lot of fan art for music and movies. ... just some things to consider.

Is that 50 gb for tv on the client or server? I have no problem if it is the server. Will have a problem if it is the client.

I'll be curious how the Pipo x7 with Intel Baytrail-T Z3736F Quad Core CPU (2.16 GHz) works out. I tried my HP stream8 win8.1 tablet with a Z3735G CPU. Even with videos copied to local SDHC memory I had frame drop problems with 1080i (1920-1080) video, 720 (1280-720) worked fine. This is the same basic CPU/GFx, a bit slower CPU clock (1.86 GHz vs 2.16 GHz) and 1 GB dram vs 2 GB. There are a number of new systems all based on the same type of CPU/System chips

    See following for CPU comparison.

Well, I sure hope it does work. I don't want to have to have wasted the money.

But at the same time they have all these Android boxes that are supposedly pushing 4k resolution on the same processors. I wonder why an Android box could do it and the windows box could not?

I was thinking originally about buying an Android box but I couldn't run MediaPortal on it. So that's why I chose the Pipox7 with windows. I guess we'll know in a couple of weeks.

I never looked into why 720p good vs 1080i problems. Saw a number of articles about new Baytrail/Atom-CPU based systems. These systems are more or less a tablet without a touchscreen/display so I tried the tablet as a test case. I should probably collect logs and post them to see if there is an obvious problem. I did verify that LAV-video codec was using the DXVA HW acceleration did not look any closer.

Hope your system works, would be a neat way to get a small/cheap MePo client.
