Hi,
I got my HTPC with MP to work so well that I gave away my VCR, sold my CD jukebox and permanently disconnected my HiFi DVD :)

Now I need some advice. I want to make my HTPC quiet. I got this HT-400 case (http://www.quietpcusa.com/acb/showdetl.cfm?&DID=8&Product_ID=160&CATID=9) and it is standing in a Benno from IKEA (http://bilder.prisjakt.nu/bild.php?p=91128&st=2). That is why i don't think a completly fanless solution will do. So I found the next best thing(?) - a semi fanless PSU - the Nesteq ASM 450W (http://www.quietpcusa.com/acb/showdetl.cfm?&DID=8&Product_ID=412&CATID=2). Any of you got any experience with it? Or any better suggestions?

BR,
/Sven

I have been using one of these in my main PC (not my HTPC) for a year or more now and I rate it. It's actually an older 500W version (no longer available), but the principle is the same.

This PC has an AMD 4600, 7900GTX, and has 5x HDD, so although it doesn't have a huge power requirements, it can draw a fair few watts. 99% of the time the fan does not rotate at all, and when it does it only runs for a few seconds at the lowest possible speed. The fan itself isn't the quietest around, but at the low speeds it runs, it's almost inaudible.

I'm guessing that if I'm gaming and pulling the maximum amount of power the fan probably runs more constantly, but I've never heard it over the sound from the game.

AT some pont I'm thinking of replacing the Silverstone fanless PSU I use in my HTPC with one of these. Not because the Silverstone PSU is bad in any way, but my HTPC has minimal cooling, and I like the idea of a fan that will stop the PSU from overheating during the summer months.

Thanks for your reply. I don't quite understand "rate it". Is it good or bad, or how many thumbs up :) ?

It sounds like you think it is a good PSU though. If you were to buy a new PSU (and keep the one you got in its computer) for your HTPC, would you buy a Nesteq?

Oops, sorry about that. It's not particularly clear is it?

"Rate it" = abbreviation of "rate it highly", meaning I think it's very good.

Anyway, you are completely correct, I do think the Nesteq is a good PSU. And I would put one in my HTPC if I was buying a new PSU for it.
