I have this same problem.  You need to delete or manually edit the musicdsp.xml file in the config folder.  In xp it's at c:\doc&settings\all users\app data\team MP\mp.  Just edit it in notepad, take out all the "BASS" entries.  It's easier to delete it, MP will make a new one on it's own.
