Hi,
I currently have 3pcs in the house,
The htpc (specs as below) in the living room, a desktop in the office and a laptop.
The htpc and the desktop are connected to a broadband modem/router via cat 5 cable and the laptop connects to the router wirelessly.
I do not want to watch tv on the desktop or laptop but I would like them to both be able to play music stored on the htpc hard drive.
Is it worth installing MP on the desktop and laptop just to use the server function or is there a simple way of getting the music to the other computers?
Could I (ie. is it safe) just to set my 'media' drive (only has music, recorded tv and the ripped dvd's stored on it) as a 'shared folder' in windows so I can just find the music using windows explorer and play using windows media player on the other 2 computers?
Is there a better way?
Also, If I wanted to add some music for the kitchen what's a simple way of doing it?
I am thinking I could just put an amplifer and a pair of speakers in and run a audio cable from the htpc.
I only use the optical output from the htpc so the analog audio outputs are empty.
I would have volume control on the amp in the kitchen but could I stream audio from 'my music' out of the analouge jacks at the same time as sombody else is watching tv and getting the sound from that over spdif?
If I actually wanted to change tracks ect would it be possible using something like a rf remote control?
Alternativly, if I got some sort of audio streamer could I run it in the background while MP runs fullscreen?
Would I get problems if both the streamer and mp tried to play the same file at the same time?
Cheers
