Network DVD Player Only (1 Viewer)

I just want a network DVD Player! I've yet to see a hardware-box that delivers that for the money I'm willing to spend and therefore I'm contemplating of building my own. I've looked at the available software and it seems I've got 2 choices (MCE is not an option - too expensive):

1. MythTV
2. MediaPortal

They both seem be able to do what I want although they appear to require some extra configuration before I can use them as wanted.
I'm totally unfamiliar with building my own PC and configuring MythTV/MediaPortal and would like some help/suggestions.

My setup need to do this:

1. Be controlled by my 5-year old through a remote
2. Be quiet
3. Only play DVD's ripped to video_ts-folders from my NAS (an uNSLUng NSLU2)
4. Look relatively nice
5. Has to be shut On/Off through the remote

I would like to know what hardware I should consider buying, and how I should configure MediaPortal. I would like MediaPortal to only show "My Videos" in CoverArt-mode but how am I to achieve this? Do I need to make my own skin or can this be configured?

I hope you guys (and gals?) can help me out!

It looks quite interesting but I can't tell from the specs whether or not it can run MP. Can any of you?

interessting product... will keep an eye on it, for CarPC use.

For MediaPortal a DX9 grafixcard is needed to run smoothly... so this could be a showstopper with the integrated savage4?! Seems to be an old DX7 chip?
