My first HTPC was with XP emerald(Windows XP Media Centre) in 2004 i have been a loyal windows media centre user since.

Until i went to a mates place and noticed he was using media portal, after seeing he had the moving pictures plugin it was enough to convince me to move.

So i made the switch and i have enabled a few tweaks to make the transition from WMC7 to media portal easier.

I do however have a few questions.

Question 1
When you hit the right arrow on the MCE remote it takes you to a start, shutdown, restart, close media portal page. Can i map this to a different button?

Question 2
Can i remove the My Videos out of the menu? im using streamed mp skin. I only need TV, My Movies, My Series.

Question 3
Can you enables some colour coding in the EPG to distinguish movies, doco's, etc?

Question 4
When i scroll all the way down to the bottom of the EPG, if i go past the last channel to fast i start at the top and have to go all the way down again. It will not let me go up. Can this be changed?

Question 5
What is a good codec pack to use? im using the latest media portal with windows 7 64bit with the latest streamed mp skin.
I need to be able to watch mkv files and mv4 and mp4.

Question 6
Can i make the skip buttons on the mce remote work?

What is the best way to back all configs in the event i need to restore after a fresh install? or how do i backup media portal plus streamed mp?.

Question 8
Whats a good program to organise a music library for use in media portal?

The navigation is defined in the skin. This can be changed if you change the skin yourself or ask in the relevant skin forum

Yes. If you go into the config app then plugin tab and set video plugin as disabled it should no longer show

Not possible now but is on the list to add for MP 1.3

This will be changed a lot in 1.2 which will have a beta released in the next week or two

None with win7 all you need is a splitter. Download and install haali and that should sort out all your videos

In the program data folder in win7 the mp folders contain all the application settings. You have not mentioned tv so I will not mention that....

Do you mean sort out tagging of files or displaying them in MP? If displaying then the inbuilt plugin handles this. If tagging have a look at MPTagThat (products link above)

Hi thanks for the reply.

I have enabled the MCE remote in the config, in order to skip i need to hit the arrow buttons. The skip buttons under the RWD/FWD buttons dont work or act as skip next chapter buttons.

For Questions 7 im needing to know how to backup the entire media portal so in the event i need todo a reinstall whats the best way for me to reinstate media portal with out having to configure it all up again.
Whats the backup and restore procedure?

Also i disabled the videos plugin, but this does not remove it from the menu and also it stops me from playing DVD's. So i guess i have to have it.
