I’m about to build my first htpc, and would like any comments about the following configuration.
This is essentially one of the low end systems recommended by renethx on the avs forum.

CPU: Pentium Dual-Core E5200
Scythe SHURIKEN SCSK-1000
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-E7AUM-DS2H GeForce 9400
Memory: A-DATA ADQVE1A16K DDR2-800 2 x 1GB Kit
Graphics Card: GeForce 9400 (integrated in the motherboard chipset)
HDD: Western Digital WD6400AAKS 640GB SATA
PSU: 80 PLUS 350W ATX PSU (included in the case)
Case: Antec Black Fusion Remote
AVerMedia AVerTV Combo PCIe

I will be using this for:
Watching/recording live tv via comcast qam
blue ray play back
720p/1080p mkv files
Watching dvd and blue rays encoded to mkv from hdd

Will this work well with mp? Is there any reason to stray from renethx’s recommended hardware?
:D

renethx is a good man. gigabyte should cut him somehow. i bought the same board, but will be using the e6850 conroe at 3.0G from another machine.
spec wise you should be able to decode anything 1080 even with software only decoding.
personally i think the case he keeps recommending is overkill when you can get the ANtec 300 for $39.00 and ThermalTake 430 for $39.00, the antec is a great looking case with many fan ooptions if you need them and i own 3 thermal takes all of which have been running 24/7 for 3 years - afraid to turn them off now....

This will work. I wouldn't call it "low end" though. If you don't care about saving 20 bucks, just get it and enjoy.

Which BD drive are you going to get?

I guess I just planned on getting whatever is cheapest from newegg.

LITE-ON Black 4X Blu-ray DVD-ROM 12X $89.99

Is this ok?

Don't know if this is a good one, just wanted to know. There is still little reviews on BD drives on the internet. Let us know when you have got in into operation.
