New LCD - 32'' or 37''? (2 Viewers)

I'm planning on buying a new LCD TV. The problem I encountered is, that
the guy in the shop told me that it would be much better to go for a 37 Inch
LCD than a 32'' because a resolution of 1366 x 768 is not a standard computer resolution
and the 37'' LCD would be by far the better choice. I do know that I could modify the resolution
with PowerStrip but would that make the picture quality worse?

I am also planning on buying a passive cooled Radeon 2400 - is that card able to
play back High-Def content at 1920x1080?

Which LCD should I go for - is there really that much of a difference?
I'd think that the 37'' LCD is more futureproof than the smaller one;
It supports a higher resolution and has FullHD Capability...

Any help on this one?

Thanks!

Weather you get a 32" or 37" LCD ("HD-ready"), then they most probably have same resolution (1366 x 768)

You should get a LCD with 1:1 pixelmapping
    Read: http://pixelmapping.wikispaces.com/
If you buy the correct LCD, then there is no "need" for PowerStrip.

There are other things to - off course, like refresh rates etc.
LG has a very good reputation when it comes to HTPC usage from what I have read. They also offer a good PQ.

I would never buy anything smaller then 37", though... :)

well the 37'' LCD I had in mind supports a resolution of 1920x1080, while the smaller one only supports
    1366 x 768.

Is there that much of an advantage with the higher resolution? Am I going to notice any difference between the two of them?

It's not only a technical question. It is recommended that three times the diagonale should be between screen and viewer, so your living-room has to be larger with 37''. But this is not really a reason for people who are interessted in technical things ;)

I know the "formula" for diagonal size and viewing lenght - however I kind of disagree; 37" will never feel to big unless sitting less than 3m from the TV IMO.
Generally it is easier to get 1:1 pixel mapping with full HD sets.
I agree. However I do not believe that 1080p will look any different than 720p before 40+". I read a test stating that people in general saw no difference before 50+".

Also: There are NO 1080p skins for MP, and Windows enviroment is kind of small (and you cannot "bump up" textsize, as it will give black screen in MediaPortal (known bug - MS bug,not MP, I've been told).

Resolution of sources and size of room (distance from screen) are factors you should consider.
i.e. what is final perceived "DPI"

Some people buy massive screens and are dissapointed or must sit further away because their sources don't have enough resolution. They should have bought smaller screen!

If you have large room and/or HD sources (now or soon) then buy a large screen, else why waste your money?

BTW, Is it not possible to get 32" 1080 screens? - I sit about 2.5m from my screen, so that would be enough for my room.

There is a distance of about 4m from the screen to my viewing point so 37'' should be okay...

I dont know if there are any 32'' 1080 screens - can somebody help us on this?
And which 32'' / 37'' do support 1:1 pixelmapping? Any suggestions?

There is ONLY one Sharp lcd. I have seen it, and forget about it. Go for the Samsung. If you want to go 40/42" (4m distance allows that), you have much more choice
