I'm from Texas, USA and basically after dreading about MCE I found information about Media Portal over youtube and it looked good so I decided to give it a shot. Been wanting to set up something similiar to MCE for a while now but never had a chance to and now I can. There are som many options and settings it's overwhelming, if there is anyone that can help me over aim for the first time setting up basically just little things like how to make the folder view the image of the dvd cover etc, I would appreciate it. I didn't think this forum would be this big.

    Hi - welcome.

For your DVD covers, you can either use the folder view, and have a dvd cover named folder.jpg in that folder, or the correct way is to use database views. For this, you setup a movie folder, then import the movies into the database, Mediaportal will match them against IMDB and download covers/synopsys etc.

For this however you will want to name your films as they are named on IMDB (with the year)

I just updated my movies database and it seemed to put random dvd covers and synpopsys for what is completely wrong, and even in spanish. So for every single movie/tv show file I have, I would need to re-name it to the actual tv show and year it came out? Yikes. Still have lots to learn.

Yep - for the matching to work you need things like "The Matrix (1999)" etc. the cover art isnt always perfect, but it downloads more than one cover, you can chose which one is correct

    Hi quakerr

Keep TV shows and films\movies in seperate folders, this just saves a load of garbage results during scans turning up.

Depending how much of a Movie\database fanatic you are, also consider either MYFilms (Ant movie catalogue based) or Moving Pictures (nice Fanart + auto updating for added files, but this is beta atm).

TVShows only one choice MP-TVSeries :)

These can all be found in the plugins forum\Hot plugins

Thanks, I'm very anal and picky about things I like everything to be perfect and pretty. All the movies seem to have to be in 1 folder? I have my movies in seperate folders with nfo files and cover images etc. I'll look into MyFilms and moving pictures plugins. Thanks for all the help guys, if any of you can help over aim I would much appreciate it. You can aim me @ quakerroatmeal.
