I have tried various things, and reinstalled MP a few times, but whatever I do, the CPU Utilization is in the 60% - 100% range.
The mouse movement is eratic.

My latest attempt has the most basic features, ie music, pictures... No special skins, nothing else.

Playing an mp3 and moving the mouse caused the audio playback to go quiet.

I am looking for an alternate to Meedio but this has got to be my worst experience in loading any multimedia software.

My system has had no issues with other apps, except for this one.

.net Framework 1.1 and 2.0 are installed and upto date.
DirectX 9.0C installed too.

Any help would be appreciated as I would really like to move to MP

Thanks

    OK, lets see:

Your system should do fine with MP. So its most likely a drivers/codec issue here. Plz for a first test check Taskmanager if really MP consumes that much CPU-Power.
If its really MP consuming that much, plz provide us with a log (\mediaportal\logs\mediaportal.log, error.log if available).

    Regards

    Log File

    Here is my log files.

Hope you can find something that can help.

There were no error log files.

CPU usage was around 60%, just for the pictures I was viewing.

Hmm, it seems strange, esp. since you were "just" in the my Pics module.

Since it was constantly generating picture thumbs in the backgound, please open my Pics, ask it to generate all thumbnails (menu of a folder) and then check if the performance is better.

Also check if MP thread is really the one with 60% CPU (Task Manager / Processes)

    hmm that is odd.
    what anti-virus are you running?
i've seen similar stuff with norton and mcrapeee
To find out what exactly is stealing your cpu, hold down ctrl+alt+del
you whoulsd get a window up called task manager
    click on the Processes tab
then click where it says cpu to sort by cpu
    crap.GIF

this is a percentage you will see it move around a bit.
but basically, the thing at the top is doing the most.
in my case the system is idle (as i'm just typing to you).

Been playing around for the last week.

What I have noticed is this.
When I mouse around in the home window, the CPU usage is really high, like the mouse from within MP is sucking up resources. Yet, I can use the arrow keys to make selections, and the cpu usage is less than 20%.

When MP is not running, mousing around my HTPC is not an issue. Not sure why MP and the mouse are not playing nice.

So, what I had done is totally unload all of MP. I went back and restored my PC (love system restore) to a point before I ever had MP installed. I reinstalled with the V0.2.3.0 RC1 and the latest snapshot. Same result. So, the 0.2.2 version and the latest are both giving me the same grief.

I've tried following various install methods, and the result is the same.

Can you tell us (from the Windows Task Manager) exactly what process is using the CPU heavily when you "mouse around"? Is it Mediaportal.exe or another process?

    Sorry,

Yes, MP is the using all of the CPU resources when mousing.

When I use the arrow keys to move around, the utilization is low for MP, and the remainder of the time the CPU is idling.

BTW - I have a logitech LX700 wireless keyboard and mouse combo.

Thanks for your interest in my problem.

It seems that the isue has something to do with the Logitech mouse? Do you have a regular mouse (wired) that you could use instead of the Logitech one, to see if that makes any difference?

I have just checked my setup here, and it doesn't matter if I use the mouse, keyboard or MCE remote - the CPU% is consistently less than 10%.

    hmmm,
i think it is more likely to be something to do with your logitech driver.
do you have "expressions" enabled, it was a wierd feature where you could draw a symbol with your mouse and it would be interpreted into a command (like a figure 8 shape would be equivalent to "launch web page").

if you don't have a spare mouse, just uninstall all the logitech stuff and remove the mouse from device manager, then when you restart, force it to choose a standard mouse.

also, obviously, make sure you are using the latest drivers for your mouse.
and video card as well, since it is responsible for drawing the pointer.
