MediaPortal Version: 1.1 Beta
Windows Version: Vista Ultimate
Remote: Diamond GRC-100

This is probably a long shot, but I figured I might as well try. I used to utilize the Pinnacle MCE Remote Kit (Found here: Amazon.com: Pinnacle Remote Kit for Windows Media Center On Vista: Electronics) with Mediaportal and it worked beautifully as an MCE remote. That is until the day a capacitor inside of it exploded and...well, it stopped working. I went without a remote for a while until I recently purchased a Diamond GRC100 (Found here: https://www.diamondmm.com/store/product.php?productid=16336&cat=28&page=1). This functions just fine under Mediaportal as well, but is listed as a HID. That alone makes me think this is hopeless, but anyways...

I am looking to utilize the old receiver with the new remote as the new remote does not have an IR Blaster port on its receiver. They are both listed as RC6 remotes on the back tags, so I assume they should at least be similar in function. The issue is that the receiver does not seem to interpret the remote correctly. Namely, I can press any button I want on the remote and the old receiver does not respond aside from glowing, showing it is receiving a signal. The remote does not seem to control Mediaportal, nor Vista MCE.

I installed LM Remote Keymap and it was able to pull the codes from the remote through the receiver, so I know something is happening, I just don't know where along the chain things are breaking down. This isn't really a Mediaportal only issue as the remote seems to do nothing under Windows alone on the old receiver. Anyone with any ideas or anything would be most appreciated. I honestly don't even know where to start with this. I'm guessing it isn't possible to use the old receiver as solely an IR Blaster either, but I would be perfectly fine with that outcome. Thanks in advance, I would be happy to run any tests or provide any further information anyone could want.

Computers don't have any idea what remote you have...it only knows the receiver. If your old receiver works then you can
use just about any remote that has MCE support. You could pick up a cheap Philips remote since all of them have MCE support.
If you want to use the new remote with the old receiver then you need to translate the button codes into commands that MediaPortal understands. If LM Remote recognizes individual button presses then all you need to do is set it so that when you press Pause on the remote LM sends "space" or whatever keyboard command MP uses. As far a MediaPortal knows you are using the keyboard so you don't list any remote in MediaPortal. You need to make a mapping for every button you use on your remote in LM Remote. I do the same thing but with EventGhost.
