Ok so ive decided to take the extra step since i like this mediaportal software that much, i have the following to build my media "NEW" media center.

4 HDDS 2TB each
P5K-E mobo
8 Gigs Corsair ram
750 WaTTs PSU
lots of fans
DvD burner
Quad core CPU Q6600
8800Gts Nvidia GPU

I have no other use for this stuff so im using it for my new media center what the hell :) the only thing i have not is a actual media center case, one that has a screen on the front or something is what i want. i will be hooking this up to a Sony 60" flat screen in my living room for now while i set this up, then to my bedroom on a 40" Sony flat screen. after im finished i will clone the HDD with acronis just to have a backup on hand :) it always helps because i like to toy with stuff alot so if i screw it up i have a fall back. any inputs great. THANKS

High power consumption... consider undervolting the cpu? do you plan on using the machine for Gaming as well as home theatre? You could probably cut some of the GPU noise by using an after market passive cooler on the 8800gt if you're not 3d rendering with it.

    HTPC Cases:
    Silverstone
    Antec
    Coolermaster
    Thermaltake
    Lian Li
    Origen AE

Personally I really like the DH102. My mini review of Silvertone LC20 HERE

more HERE and HERE but particularly HERE

I guess when people build HTPC's generally the thing they try to is to reduce heat so that lower rpm fans can be used. The objective usually being that the machine is as quiet as possible so that you're not hearing it hum during quiet parts of a movie or tv show. A decent case will take care of a limited amount of sound dampening but ultimately your choice of components and how you cool them will determine how noisy the box is.
