Hi, here is my ideal setup and I'd appreciate anyone's help on the questions I have below.
Note that I'm using Rogers Cable, and from what I understand, it can only be connected through the set-top box (STB).
- A TV Server PC
-> With two or more TV tuners connected to separate STBs
-> With IR blasting capabilities
- 4 Remote MediaPortal Clients connected via Ethernet
-> With MCE remote controls
Questions:
1) What type of tuner(s) do I need to connect the TV server to a Rogers STB?
2) On the remote clients, how does it determine what TV tuner to use for watching TV? If one is in use, does it automatically use another tuner when you select Watch TV from another room? Can you manually select which tuner to use and what happens when all tuners are 'busy'?
3) How exactly does IR blasting work? In other words, how do you separate IR blasting so it only controls the set-top box that is currently being used by the remote client changing channels. I.e. If I'm in room A watching Tuner/STB 1 and someone in Room B is watching Tuner/STB 2 and changes channels, how can it be controlled so it only changes the channel on STB 2 and does not interfere with what Room A is watching?
Thanks for your help.
