ATI HD4670 seems to get recommended a lot, that will be my next htpc card.

If there is problem, is caused by software.

Win7 is beta, Win7 drivers are bata...

that is true. here in NZ cheapest 4550 is $90 and 4670 is $140 so 50% extra price.
if you compare performance it is about 100% better
altho of course that is not necessarily relevant to htpc
however i would personally spend the little bit extra

4670 is pretty low wattage as well, only 13 extra watts at peak performance

Thanks for your discussion, this was exactly what I was hoping would happen - so I can learn from your opinions. I havent bought any card yet - so I might be tempted by a 4550 silent.

Make sure it fits in your case, normal atx case there would be no problem, but with the heatsink raising the height gives it limited htpc use.

since you state you have 'old computer' 4670 maybe overkill compared to your other components
