Hi all,

I have just started to look at MediaPortal after a friend of mine pointed me in this direction.

My current setup is a HP 530D SFF that is being upgraded with bits and pieces of hardware (such as Hard drive, more RAM, HIS AGP Card, etc). I'll be doing the upgrades before installing MediaPortal onto the PC as I am doing a complete new Samsung 400GB 7200RPM Hard drive, Graphics Card, etc and would rather not do it all twice for now.

My main qeustion is: If I want to view HDTV in Australia using Mediaportal, do I need to install the TV-server as well as Mediaportal (as I think it does) or does the latest stable version of Mediaportal support HDTV allready - the reason I ask is after having read through the website I am a bit confused as to whether it does or not.

If I do need it, I will simply install it along with the rest of the program.

Qeustion2: My DVB-T card is a generic version (made by Geniatech) and utelises Conexant 23881 chipset. It utelises PCI, it allows Live TV, Record TV, Timeshift TV, DVB radio, etc. I am currently asuming that Mediaportal would work with my card, am I correct in this assumption or am I making a "horses ass out of myself"?

Ps. I love the Forum feature where this forum automatically shows similar thread posts. before you even post!

:D

Welcome to MediaPortal subieboy - I assume that you drive a WRX?

No, you don't need to install TVE3 (TV Server), TVE2 (the built-in TV plugin) handles HDTV just fine in AUS. But, from my experience, you will need the CyberLink decoder in order to get smooth video for all HDTV channels.

TVE3 will work fine, TVE2 may (or may not) work, but it is possible to modify the "CaptureCardDefinitions.xml" file to get it working in TVE2.

    HTH ... :)

Yep, both my wife and I have one each... What can I say, I love technology and they are better than a falcodore dinosaurs :D

Thank you Taipan, :D It is what I assumed but got confused by different articles/write-ups, so will have a play with the inbuilt TVE2 once the system is going. I have the Cyberlink decoders installed allready (from PowerDVD) so that would hopefully help.
