Hello,

I have posted on here several times seeking help on different things but I have failed in getting GBPVR or Mediaportal set up. I am currently using Vista Media Center and it sucks. I recently added Starz and HBO to my cable account and if I am wanting to record a program to watch later I have to pray it doesn't come up with a Blue Screen saying I can't watch the program I recorded.

Here are my specs:

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 GHZ
1GB of RAM
Windows Vista Home Premium
Nvidia Geforce 8600 GTS
and, of course, my 2 Hauppauge HVR 1600 cards

I also have a Microsoft Remote Model 1039 and this has an IR blaster resembling the one in this picture:

These send signals to two STB's. In Media Center they work fine. When I try to use GBPVR I have several issues. When I go to add my cards I don't see two Hauppauge 1600 present when I put a check in "Only show devices connected to this machine". Instead, I see a 1600 and a 1500. Also I am unsure what board numbers I should assign. I have had little issue getting my EPG to work but I am kind of unsure whether I have it set up correctly to update nightly.

In Mediaportal I have met with similar yet even more issues. Personally, I found the learning curve high but maybe I am just tired. I think I added the cards right because I was able to get a picture, but no sound. I also totally failed in getting an EPG and blaster even started inside it.

My two biggest issues lie in getting Live TV to show a picture (all I get is a black, staticy screen). Second, I have found it nearly impossible to get the channel changer to work. I originally set it to MCE 2005 IR Blaster but no luck. Searching on the GBPVR and other forums I followed several tutorials for getting HIP or IR Server Suite to work. I found HIP almost impenetrable. Such as when I went into "Edit IR Commands" to get the commands from my STB remote I get constant errors trying to learn an IR command. In IR Server Suite I was able to learn commands but they blast to both STB's! I am unable to make it send to one or the other. I am hoping to soon be able to make this work. Please, if you can, HELP!

Thanks,
Nick

Nick-
You've got a lot of words in your post, but it's really hard to follow, bouncing back and forth between GBPVR, MCE, and Mediaportal problems. I can only help with the latter. I suggest you include more details on your setup (especially I can't tell if you are running TV2 or TV Server, let along the version). Even your country is hugely useful, as the U.S. has its own problems, and few developers from here. I thinkl you've only got three questions in your post
- "how come IR Server Suite is blasting both STBs?"
- "I've got picture but no sound" (but in one part of you post you say you get a picture but no sound, and another part of your post you say you just get "a black, staticy screen"
- "EPG doesn't work"

1) The STB setup for IR Server Suite is going to be really easy for you to fix. If you go to the plugin config (assuming TV Server here) for TV3 Blaster Plugin, click the STB Setup button. Go to the tab for your TV card, and for each signal (0-9) double click to open the setting, and change the blaster port from "Both" to "Port_1" or "Port_2" as the case may be. Do this for both cards.

2) Are you sure the channels are set to the right input (S-Video vs tuner vs RCA)? I suggest setting up a channel for each input, and seeing if any input shows your STB. Once you know which input, you can adjust all your channels to be on the same input.

3) No one can help with your EPG information (I think that's your other question) until we know your country. In the U.S. you can't beat Schedules Direct, but in Europe I think you can actually pull it in over your tuner card.
