:) First of all i'd like to say hi as this is post number1.

I must admit that i am really impressed with this media portal(still playing about with it though as only got it yesterday) but i have a questions for you experienced users.

My PC has a 5.1 surround sound enabled soundcard and a digital optical output but when i connect it to my 5.1 amp using toslink cable i can only get 2.0 audio.
Does anyone have any ideas why this might be?

Please help

Thanks
Gaz

Good general PC/HTPC troubleshooting guide for audio & video here I came across, since its probably not directly an issue with MP. (Owner of forum uses/recommends MP as well.) Second page shows examples with surround issues, how to identify / fix.

    Hi
I have tried the above and have noticed that my home theatre systems display doesn't show the 'DIGITAL' logo like it should do when playing a digital source. So it seems my computer isn't even sending a digital signal:( ...just an analogue stereo signal)

Can anyone please help because i'm desperate to get this done now

Thanks Sh4nn0w for the above info.I'm gonna keep the link for when/if i sort my problem

    Thanks
    Gary

Oh well worth a shot. You might get more feedback if you filled out your system specs as it may help knowning exactly what your setup is.; i.e. don't know your using Vista or XP, what your soundcard is etc.

Probably a long shot, but you using up-to-date drivers etc.

Also does it work directly in windows? Both my onboard and plugin soundcard come with test programs where you can check what's setup and test the output. If works there, then move onto Mediaportal setup.

Assuming you just trying DVD's at the moment; have a look in the wiki; various options for sound output, same for music/movies/tv etc in the configuration.

EDIT: actually have a look at all of the setup stuff in the wiki if you haven't already, there's lots of useful things there. Main Wiki page here

    Good luck!

Not sure if you've resolved this or not, but you need to go into your sound configuration (windows config, not MediaPortal) and enable "Digital Audio Output". My sound card won't detect the digital cable and use it properly unless I tell it to. It will default to stereo at all times. Your card may not be like that but it's worth a shot.
