Hi Folks,

I am totally new to MP and just set up my first system. After testing mythtv and vista mce I think I've found my perfect program :) Thanks to the whole community (developers, plugin developers, forum and irc users)

Fortunately it is working all fine with MP1 and TVServer 3.
The next project is the remote control and I am a little bit confused about the whole bunch of information in this forum.

I have to say that my DVB-S Card (Technisat Skystar2) already contains a IR remote control using an USB dongle. As far as I know this should word using the WinLIRC plugin (at least the real LIRC under linux was able to control this remote in the past). Anyway, it seems that the WinLIRC plugin and even WinLIRC itself is not well developed. So I found the MCE Replacement Plugin. If I understood it correctly this plugin is obsolete and has been replaced by the IR-Server Suite. Correct me if I am wrong.

I've just read a fewpages of the documentation and I think it would be the best to throw my remote control away and buy a Windows MCE compatible one. Mine is lacking play and pause buttons and to be honest I would like the remote control to work out of the box, which those MCE remote controls obviously do, right?

So what about these here, will they work?

ebay article number: 250215366049

FUNK Fernbedienung WINDOWS Vista & XP Media Center MCE bei eBay.de: Fernbedienungen Pointer (endet 22.02.08 11:34:28 MEZ)

I think this is the same: 160206850981

MCE Fernbedienung XP&Vista / Microsoft zertifiziert X10 bei eBay.de: Fernbedienungen Pointer (endet 15.02.08 16:54:12 MEZ)

ebay article number: 170192393430

Toshiba USB MCE Funk Fernbedienung für Win XP und Vista bei eBay.de: Fernbedienungen Pointer (endet 18.02.08 09:47:05 MEZ)

And here (probably) the original Microsoft one:

Willkommen bei K&M Elektronik AG - Computer und Elektronik Gross- und Einzelhandel

Which one do you prefer?

BTW: I am running normal German Windows XP, not the MCE edition. Does that matter?

best regards

Stefan

If you get one, go for this one. I expect the others would work fine, but I can't promise it. But this one would definitely work:

Willkommen bei K&M Elektronik AG - Computer und Elektronik Gross- und Einzelhandel

BTW: I am running normal German Windows XP, not the MCE edition. Does that matter?

    XP Home or Pro?

If it's Pro it will work without anything else needed, but if it's Home you might need to install the drivers.

Even if you try IR Server Suite and aren't happy, the beauty of the MCE remote is that you have a lot of alternatives. MediaPortal has built-in support for the remote and there are lots of programs that can interact with the MCE remote unit.

Go for it and let me know how you go.

    Hope that helps,
