Hi all

I have recently install mediaportal and everything works fine except no tv pictures. It really looks very promising compared to mce (which crashes twice a week) and GBPVR which installed and worked OK but was very unintuitive and I couldn't figure how to do the simplest of things.

In mediaplayer, I can play DVDs ok and also tv films previously recorded with mce. Music and audio is also fine, as is the weather etc. The mce remote and wireless keyboard both work well.

I have got xmltv up and running and have the UK's radio times epg. The right channels are there and they are ticked. When I choose live tv, I get a simulated tv screen that shows black, white and coloured dots for a few seconds then goes black. The selected channel shows up under the picture with the program synopisis.

When I first installed the software it asked for things like antenna/cable, and options to search for videos and music etc. That all worked OK, but now I can't find where that setup routine is. Does it only run once? I have clicked on the setup icon on the desktop which has a lot of options in it, but selection of antenna/cable, types of input and output etc don't seem to be available. Where, for instance, do I tell it that I have a STB, with scart /composite input and svideo output etc?

Clearly no signal/s is/are being detected. I went through the bit that asks for city etc (I live in Spain but get sky via a pace digibx and have no terrestrial antenna available). It obviously did not detect any cities and I went through the manual tune. It searched for 5 minutes but didn't find any channels from the sky box.

I have searched this forum and googled for hours but can't find any sort of guide to setting up mediaportal with a sky box, or any posts where someone has sought help with a sky setup. No doubt someone will tell me different...

I'd appreciate any help anyone can give. If you need more info - I'll get it to you.

Yes, the wizard starts only on first time. But the wizard is only a tool to make the setup easier, EVERY config can be found in the regular configuration tool too...

as far as i'm concerned you're searching for this:

configuration --> television --> capture cards -->

either you#re card is listed there, then you have to mark it and click on "edit".

or it's not and you have to click on "add" as long as you're card is in fact supported. There you will get the requested screens (antenna cable etc...)

maybe you're also searching for the screen you get when you go to the channel list and add a channel.

am i getting this right, you're try to use an external setupbox with MP and not the card itself via for example an SVHS cable from your box to the card's video in? then the card won't find any channels by scanning for sure (-; . you have to add the "SVHS, RGB etc." channels in television --> channels.

you can also add more than one channel, and go to "external" "received by external settop box" to say you want to receive by SVHS.

Just a quick reply to say how grateful I am for you taking the time to reply. Your info will probably be enough to get me going. I am mostly ok at setting these things up if I can find the setup options :lol:

At the moment I have a house full of guests but will try your suggestions as soon as I am free.

Just to explain - my setup is as follows. I have a sky digbox set-top box which receives signals via a dish. It outputs an analogue signal to the PVR150 card in my computer via a scart on one end and composite/audio leads at the other. The output from the computer goes by svideo from the computer to my TV which has an svideo socket (for camcorders and the like). Hope that helps.

OK - I have just finally had a chance to try some changes to settings to get a tv picture.

I have found the settings dialogues but unfortunately there are too many possible options that I don't understand. I have tried many possible changes but never got a picture. What I really need is some help from someone who has a sky settop box.

Just to recap - everything works as it should except no tv picture - i.e. I can play audio and video such as CDs and DVDs. Also films previously recorded with mce. My setup is as the previous post. I have tried:

1. All the offered video codecs; interlace is set at "none". I have tried changing this as well.

2. I have edited the tuner card to show UK as the country and Cable as the Input. Autoscan produces nothing at all

3. I have edited the Channels Option. It shows 60+ channels, all ticked. However, nearly all come up as Channel 0 and "internal". I have tried changing some of these to External, then they come up as Channel 25000 etc.

4. I have tried adding the default channels - CVBS#1 and 2 etc.

5. I have tried setting some of the channels to 68 which was a setting for sky's default when i once setup mythtv. Also tried setting ||BBC1 to 101, BBC2 to 102 etc - no joy

I don't really know enough to be able to systematically change other things. I am probably just making things worse.

Can anyone with a sky setup help out withdefault settings please??
