Hi all:

some questions about this plugin:

1- Does this plugin works only with a certain kind of movie catalogue, like ant, personal video database etc... etc..
2-does it support a catalogue program called "griffith" ??
3-Can it be used only with stored movies on HD - I mean without any catalogue database ?? just like moving pictures ??

I ask these questios as I have been trying to configure it and so far I could not.It seems much more complicated then moving pictures.

Tks for your answers.

    hi :)
while you wait for the subject matter experts to answer, you should have a look at the great job these guys did with their wiki:
    My Films - MediaPortal Wiki

I believe the "external catalogs" will answer 1 & 2.
and I think 3 = no :)ooops: without reading that wiki myself...)

AW: newbie question about my films

    Hi all:

    some questions about this plugin:

1- Does this plugin works only with a certain kind of movie catalogue, like ant, personal video database etc... etc..
Yes, there is a number of external catalogs suppported - ANT is best supported, as it supports native XML format, other catalogs are supported as import only - as mentioned you can check out wiki about what catalogs are supported.

2-does it support a catalogue program called "griffith" ??
No, that is not a supported catalog.

3-Can it be used only with stored movies on HD - I mean without any catalogue database ?? just like moving pictures ??
You COULD use AMCupdater just to import and use your movies with it... no, it does not work like Moving Pictures and has a different focus.
But why should you use MyFilms, if you are looking for something that "works like Moving Pictures"? If that is the case, I would recommend to use Moving Pictures itself!?

I ask these questios as I have been trying to configure it and so far I could not.It seems much more complicated then moving pictures.
Yes, it is. Moving PIctures team has spent a lot of efforts to make it work mostly automatically with little user action required.
MyFilms offers a lot of possibilites and supports a lot of different use cases, but is not "automated" in that manner - so indeed requires more configuration.
I would recommend to read the wiki and we would appreciate to get feedback, if there is certain parts unclear or not understandable, so we can improve it.

    Tks for your answers.
    You're welcome :)

    Hi hilfer:

We did try to make the purpose of My Films clear in the first post in the release thread under 'What it is' and 'what it is not' and also on the My Films Wiki Overview page (the one that says' Please Read First' ;)). However if you can give us some tips how to make it clearer, we would really appreciate it.

As Guzzi said, the main focus of My Films is for film buffs who have invested a great deal of time already developing their movie catalog/library. Often these catalogs include DVDs, BRs or videos like documentaries etc that are not easily scraped via the internet. Such users do not wish to create a whole new database and duplicate their data for Moving Pictures, especially when not all movies may exist on their hard drive. My Films is really intended for users who manage extensive movie catalogs/libraries, often using them outside MediaPortal as well. Thus it offers a great deal of customization.

Perhaps one thing that is not that clear is that you can take My Films for a 'test run' by installing the sample movies database during install. These are mainly dummy movie files, but you could add a few of your own by copying them to the Sample Movies folder (MediaPortal\thumbs\MyFilms\SampleMovies), then running a Global update > Update DB in My Films (or in AMC Updater) to add them to My Films and see how it works.

About Griffith - is it still being developed? Last update I could find was 2009 and no website. If there are a lot of users who request support for a movie catalog, we can always look into adding support. If you have an extensive database in Griffith, and it is no longer being developed, you may be able to export it and convert it to one of the movie catalogs supported by My Films.

    Thanks for bringing that up!

    Hi Dadeo:

    Tks for your kind reply.
As I said in my last reply I dont need myfilms as all I want in my movies database are the movies stored in my HD not those stored in CD's or DVD's.
For that purpose I already have "GRIFFITH" as I said.My curiosity was to know if myfilms could be a better replacement to moving picture.
Nevertheless I am satisfied with Moving picture.

    Site: Griffith - Home
Last update in svn is august 2011.

According specs, it supports also export to XML.
