Im really new to HTPC so bare with me :)

I was thinkin of getting a HTPC and after selecting some descent hardware I was given a hint about MediaPortal. The hardware i was going for:

* Gigabyte or Asus MB (with NVIDIA MCP7A (9300 / 9400) chipset)
* Some CHEAP C2D INTEL
* Hauppauge WINTV NOVA S2 (*2 in the future)
* LG Blueray / DVD Player
* Antec NSK2480 Chassi

The complete list can be found here: Produktlista - HTPC?

Then it occoured to me that hey maybe i could use my current pc to act as a tvserver and maybe get some cheaper hardware to my frontend HTPC. My current pc is a C2D E6750, 6gb ram, Gigabyte P35C-DS3R MB and a NX8800GTS GPU.

What u think is it possible to get some cheaper hardware and use my current pc as a tv-server, please note that it MUST be able to show HD channels in 1080p thru HDMI?

How does "channel lock" work, ie multiple clients watching diffrent channels? (GF wont be happy if i switch channel in the middle of Gilmore Girls to a sports channel). In this case a was thinkin of using 2 DVB-S cards (one for each client) and then it shouldn't be a problem normaly but what happens if its recording one channel already on one of the cards?

Is there ANY other clients available to the MP TV Server or are u required to have WIN os on all clients (Windows aint cheap for watching tv :) )
Any suggestions is WELCOME, thank U!

    Unfortunately even TVServer is windows based, you need xp or vista to run your server if wanting tv.
