I've only used mc2xml/legacy when it worked, mc2xml/SD, but have never tried zap2xml. Not sure if I ever stumbled across that option, or decided I didn't want to register for zap2it. Using/paying for SD EPG data (less than 1 starbucks cup of coffee per month) makes you an official "EPG customer" with no philosophical questions.

Another comment, text part of SD EPG Descriptions has more words, both have problems with season/episode data

and now I have guide data.
Great! Whatever works for you... :)

Now if I could figure out how to make the channel numbers look better. For example, 2-1 is displayed as 20001. Just looks goofy to me. Oh, well.
Sorry, MP doesn't support channel numbers in that [ATSC] format. ATSC is the only standard in the world that doesn't use simple numbers. <sigh>

Do you have any preference of zap2xml or mc2xml, or a reason to use one over the other?
I'm based in New Zealand, so I don't have actually have cause to use either of them.
Anecdotally, the quality of guide data available from a given service can vary from area to area. So, some people may find one service gives them better data while other people find the opposite.
I suppose that scraping zap2it is not particularly ethical (possibly prohibited by Ts and Cs etc.). It also has the same weaknesses all scrapers have in that they can break if/when zap2it change their data/website format... and this requires manual intervention by somebody (presumably the zap2xml developer(s)) to fix.
All of that is to say: I think you're best to make the choice for yourself. There's no harm in trying other services before you settle on the one you prefer.

Ok, so now I need to get the sleep stuff to work. I did not see the power management plugin until I missed the scheduled recording. I chose the HTPC profile and it never went to sleep, so that is probably the wrong choice. The server and client are on the same pc. I just need the thing to wake for recording and then go back to sleep. I have the EPG going on a different pc.

It is way cool that the client can send the wake packet to the server, though.
