Hi,

I am completely new to MediaPortal, and have got the basics going, but could do with some help on a few bits.

I am using the BGT3600 - starting with satellite first, I will terrestial once I've got the rest working!

The problems I am having are:

EPG - it is not working (or barely) it does occasionally fill the odd slot in the TV guide, but most of the slots are "no data available". I have looked at WebEPG, but it appears to just be built in the newest build (which is what I downloaded?)

Channels (probably one for UK users this!) - I'm getting quite a few unknown channels, and missing key ones, e.g. CBeebies (mandatory for my 2 year old!). I've trawled the forum's and see that BBC3/4 share the same frequency at different times - I've tried a day and night scan, no difference.

Video input - in an attempt to just use one HDMI cable into the TV and keep things tidy, I am trying to connect our Wii via the video input on the BGT3600. I've seen some guidance on scanning for analog channels, and adding S-Video - it doesn't appear to have any effect, and I can't see where to select the input in MediaPortal

Sorry for all the questions! Any advice you are able to provide would be gratefully received :)

Thanks,

Gareth

Hi Gareth

I can help with the EPG for satellite channels, I'd recommend the patch from Miroslav which allows you to grab the full Sky EPG, have a look at this thread here:

https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/threads/sky-uk-it-aus-enhancements.87526/

Can't help re the video input thing, apart from suggesting you don't bother - and plug the Wii straight into the TV.

As for the CBeebies issue, have a look on the lyngsat site, it should tell you the channel's details so you can either find it or do a manual single transponder scan for it: http://www.lyngsat.com/Eutelsat-28A-and-Astra-1N-2A-2B.html

Pretty sure I have both the ones that share freq in my EPG, not sure how I achieved that mind you...

Hope that's useful.

Jon.

Thanks Jon - much appreciated.

I have downloaded the patch, and run both files. I've enabled Sky EPG, but still only patchy EPG :(

I had a look at the channel details, but I'm not suree how they relate to what I need to enter when I add a channel.

Any more ideas?

Not sure what's going on with the EPG, it should be in the logs somewhere though, worth a look.

Section 7 of this guide might be useful for you: http://www.avforums.com/forums/home-entertainment-pcs/1602323-mediaportal-setup-guide.html (I personally wouldn't use a MediaPortal patch becuase it will mean that you can not upgrade MP until the patch is upgraded to the new version - that is a personal choice though).

Section 4 will also be useful when you scan your DVB-T channels and want to combine the common channels.

The reason why you didn't pickup the children's channels is because you scanned when they were not on-air (after 19:00 hrs). This is due to the way that DVB-S is transmitted and you won't have this problem with DVB-T. Just do a re-scan before 19:00 hrs and it will work fine.

    Hi Gareth,

As you have probably realised there are various ways to grab EPG. I currently use the Miroslav patch that Jonm mentioned, although there is so much merit in what Robbo100 says about upgrades whilst using specific patches. I had a very patchy EPG at first, with many gaps and the only way I eventually resolved this was by using the Sky EPG grabber. Although I would caveat that by saying if you are going to try the Sky patch, make sure you have scanned thoroughly and combined all the channels you have on different cards.

MP has a steep learning curve, well it did for me anyway. I have been using MP as my only way of viewing TV for about 2 1/2 years now and certainly would not go back to a standard, built in TV tuner or Sky offering and the assistance from this community has been invaluable - I certainly wouldn't have got to the point of stability I am currently at without the other users of this forum. so, get stuck in and feel free to ask!

There's an easy(ish) way to get most of the EPG populated, use MC2XML and WebEPG in combination.

Use this: http://mc2xml.hosterbox.net/ - it takes a little trial and error to set it up but once it's done it's quite good. Use the internal task scheduler to run this every other day, and set MP to import the file regularly.

Also setup the WebEPG to grab data too - this again takes a little setting up but works quite well. You'll have to map some channels to the correct names, and some channels don't exist on some EPGs so you'll have to trawl about for a bit.

Finally do set up the DVB-S EPG as noted by the good guys above (You'll need to find and add the correct frequency IIRC)

Using this set up I get about 99% of the EPG populated.

Hope this helps and welcome to the MP world :)
BTW Warn any significant others that you'll be out of touch for a while - tinkering with this baby eats MANY fun filled hours! ;)
