I am having trouble getting MP to play 5.1 channel audio when I play AVI files.
I just get 2 channels.
With MKV files its OK. For an experiment, I Muxed a small section of an AVI into the MKV container format, (Still keeping Xvid and AC3 files, just muxed into a MKV container). This played fine.

When I play the AVI in Media Player Classic, it plays OK as well.

I use these codecs:

MPEG-2 Video Decoder =MPC (Gabest)
H.264 Video decoder = CoreAVC
MPEG/AC# audio decoder =MPC - MPA Decoder Filter
AAC audio decoder =MPC - MPA Decoder Filter
Audio render =Default DirectSound Device

MP version 1.0.4.23491

Any ideas folks

Use GraphStudio (see the link in my sig below) to have a look at what's happening when MP is playing the AVI.

If that doesn't reveal anything, collect and attach some MP logs.

Just run MP (in windowed mode) and GraphStudio at the same time.

Play the file in MP, then in GraphStudio choose File -> connect to remote graph.

If you are running Vista or Win7 note the comments about registering 'proppage.dll' in the thread I linked (otherwise it won't work).

Right click on a filter in the graph to get info about the 'pin' connections etc (e.g. number of audio channels)

    Hi,
I run a graph, and the audio is running though cyberlink audio decoder even though its set to mpc in MP setup.
The input pin is 6 channels, and the output is 2 channels.
Any way to stop cyberlink overiding the MP setting?

Try changing the filter merits - raise the merit of the MPC filter and lower the merit of the Cyberlink audio filter - you can do this in GraphStudio (in the 'Graph -> insert filter' section - select the filter and hit 'change merit').
